Now more than a week into preseason training camp, Kentucky Football is in full pads and ramping up the physicality amid the heat and humidity in Lexington. On Thursday, defensive coordinator Brad White met the press after the team’s morning practice on campus. White spoke of the inconsistencies early in preseason camp each year but told KSR that the 2024 Wildcats are as good as any he’s seen at holding themselves to a high standard in early August.
“We’ve had some moments that, you know, like you’ll always have to a camp, that you have to jump on them and you have to (say), ‘Listen, we have a standard in the way we operate,’” White told KSR. “There are times you have to re-point out, ‘Hey, is this your standard?’ And then they sort of check themselves. This is as good of a group in terms of doing that, the check by themselves.”

He added, “That’s why we’re paid as coaches to make sure we continue to push to that standard and then try to push the standard up, elevate the bar. But overall, I think they’ve embraced the pads and for the most part they’ve done a decent job of embracing the heat. They’ve had some moments where it’s jumped on their back a little bit, and they’ve needed to push through.”
Meeting Kentucky’s standard was only part of the conversation with White, and White was only one of many who spoke after Thursday’s practice.
