Top 2027 in-state guard hearing from Iowa
The spring and summer months for high school basketball players these days means times of transition. In the early spring it’s playing AAU basketball and then in the month of June, it’s competing with your high school team, followed by AAU once again in August.
For 2027 guard Josiah Harrington, it’s been a transition from a strong spring evaluation period with a top flight AAU team in the 15U Meanstreets squad to a young North Scott High School team this month.
“It’s been a good transition so far,” Harrington said. “We ended up our spring with Meanstreets and won the platinum championship in the EYBL and qualified for Peach Jam in July. Now I am working with my high school team and trying to build our chemistry since we have a new team this year.”
Last year the Lancers had a veteran team with Harrington being a freshman playing varsity and averaging 13.3 points per game and shooting 45.6% from three point range. This year, it’s a team that’s much younger.
“We are a lot younger this year, but it’s gone good so far,” he said. “We are learning our offense and defense and getting to play with each other more.”
North Scott will be playing in team events in the Midwest in the final two weekends of June and then the 6-foot-4 guard will transition back over to Meanstreets and playing in the prestigious EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, SC with a potential title winning team.
“This is my first time making it to Peach Jam and I am excited to be facing the best players in the country and that event. I feel like we have a chance to win it.”
One thing that hasn’t slowed down is recruiting. Harrington picked up a scholarship offer from Illinois recently and he said that felt great. Meanwhile, Iowa continues to stay in touch. He recently spoke with assistant and player development coach Tristian Spurlock, who delivered a positive message.
“I talked with Coach Spurlock recently and I really like him a lot. He talks about how much Iowa likes me and how interested they are in me. He talked about how Iowa is a family.”
Iowa plans on watching Harrington later this month and in July at Peach Jam.
