Three National Signing Day Thoughts as We Await a Big Decision
After a couple of somewhat nervous moments this morning the committed Texas class is officially signed. The only negative so far was suspected Texas lean Kellen Wiley picking Miami. The Hurricanes were the original favorite and then UT’s direct competition before trailing off and re-emerging tan, rested, and ready to steal Wiley out from under Texas.
That’s a good starting point for Thought No. 1
Texas or Miami? Steve Sarkisian or Mario Cristobal? Pete Kwiatkowski or [Googles] Lance Guidry? SEC vs ACC? Increase my chances for success vs decrease my chances for success?
Who guides some of these kids? Texas has a talented, but not loaded linebacker room.
Anthony Hill will be the favorite for the Butkus next year and will likely be the highest profile defender in all of college football. Next year will be his last season.
DeMarvion Overshown went from Bambi on ice to the Cazadores label in a short period of time.
Look at David Gbenda‘s improvement. Liona Lefau and Tyanthony Smith are balling early in their career.
The program is set up to compete for the National Championship for years to come. Texas has the No. 1 defense in the country.
I get that he’s a Florida kid but picking Miami over Texas was like picking the Golden Girls over Charlie’s Angels.

Thought No. 2
Georgia and Texas play twice this week. On Friday, they go head to head, or at least are in a triple-threat match along with Auburn, for the services of soon-to-be Forbes 20 under 20 defensive tackle Justus Terry.
With the miss on Wiley, linebacker numbers are a little low but manageable. But if Texas misses on Terry, numbers aren’t nearly as manageable. You simply can’t replace a high level defensive tackle with a player out of the portal. You also can’t kick the can to the next class, that’s what got Texas in this position in the first place.
Thought No. 3
With the de-commitment of John Mills, Texas is at four offensive lineman. It’s an interesting class that will probably punch above its ranking but what does that really mean? They’re not highly rated to begin with.
You need a left tackle in every class. Lo and behold, that’s exactly what Michale Fasusi is.
Do relationships still matter in recruiting? Not as much, but the recruitments of Jaime Ffrench and Fasusi tell us many relationships still do matter. It would have been easy for most players to drop Oklahoma given lack of stability in Norman. I gotta admit, I kind of like the cut of Fasusi’s jib.
One person at Lewisville, “too close to call.” Another at Lewisville thinks and has thought it will be OU. A Texas source who has been absolute money this week (right on Ffrench, Charles, Sharma, Hicks) says 50/50.
We’ve heard Fasusi may postpone his announcement but one of the Lewisville sources still expected it to happen today as of an hour ago.
