The 5-star recruiting report

The 5-star recruiting report

There are 32 prospects in the 2025 class that have 5-star status in the On3 Industry Rankings and the Florida Gators are involved with several of them. Every few weeks, we’ll provide intel on where Billy Napier’s program sits with each of these elite targets.

-No. 6 overall — DJ Pickett, CB, Zephyrhills (Fla.): Pickett, the No. 2 corner in the country, committed to LSU over Miami and Oregon on July 17. With Florida not among his top three, that wouldn’t seem to bode well for a potential Gators flip. But according to sources, there is a belief in Gainesville that if Florida plays well this season (let’s say eight or more wins) Pickett could be in play as signing day approaches. In a nutshell, we wouldn’t close the book on this recruitment yet.

-No. 12 overall — Michael Fasusi, OT, Lewisville (Texas): Fasusi visited the Gators two weeks ago, but with his commitment date approaching (Aug. 21), Oklahoma and Texas look like the front-runners. That said, there is a silver lining. Fasusi plans to watch the Gators closely this fall and it’s possible he could return to Gainesville for a game down the road.

No. 13 overall — Solomon Thomas, IOL, Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines: The Florida State commit officially visited the Gators on June 7-9. LSU and FSU also hosted him on officials. Right now, it seems as though LSU is the ‘Noles’ biggest threat while Florida appears to have fallen since June. At last check, Thomas had no plans to attend a game at The Swamp this season. We’ll be tracking him closely to see if that changes.

-No. 23 overall — Elyiss Williams, TE, Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County: The country’s No. 1 tight end recruit is a longtime Georgia commit and the chances of Florida flipping him are slim. But he told Gators Online this summer he hadn’t ruled out officially visiting the Gators.

-No. 27 overall — Dallas Wilson, WR, Tampa Bay Tech (Fla.):  The Oregon commit was expected to officially visit Florida in June but instead went to Miami that weekend. Tuesday, he told Gators Online that Florida and UCF were the schools trying hardest to flip him. And, he said it was possible he would attend the Florida-Miami game on Aug. 31 at The Swamp. Wilson had positive things to say about Florida and receivers coach Billy Gonzales, but thus far his actions suggest the Gators face an uphill climb. A lot might hinge on Florida’s success this season and how the passing game looks.

****OF NOTES: Although receiver Vernell Brown III, the Gators commit from Orlando (Fla.) Jones, is not a 5-star in the On3 Industry Rankings, he is only one spot away from earning that distinction. With the slightest move forward from On3, 247Sports, Rivals or ESPN, he could join the 5-star group.
