10 QUESTIONS: Julian Lewis, Husan Longstreet, Aaron Dunn, Jerome Myles, Mata’i Tagoa’i, the McKays + My Favorite 2025 Prospect
On Tuesday night (8/6), our WeAreSC Subscribers submitted questions for THE LATEST edition of the USC Trojans Football AND Recruiting Q&A.
This is a feature we do weekly throughout the USC football season and will continue up until the February 2025 signing period. All questions were submitted on our “WeAreSC Members Only” Forum.
WEARESC SUBSCRIBER QUESTIONS
What are you hearing about Husan Longstreet? There are reports he was given a committable offer with a deadline by Lincoln Riley. What do you feel the chances of him pulling the trigger and flipping to us?
USC was trying to get Husan Longstreet on campus right before the July dead period, but the timing wasn’t good. Haven’t heard about a big push for him, but the fact he showed up for a 5am practice in the Spring and continues to communicate with USC, leads me to believe there’s something there.
If Lewis hadn’t reclassified and Longstreet had been the 2025 quarterback Riley pursued, he’d almost assuredly be committed to the Trojans. We’ll hopefully find out more later today on this.
Ready to put in a RPM prediction for Aaron Dunn?
As of Wednesday (8/7) morning, I believe he’ll announce for USC, but I’ve not submitted a prediction for Aaron Dunn.
Someone’s gotta ask the hard hitting question…is JuJu Lewis gonna flip?
It wouldn’t be a day ending in Y, without a probing question about Julian Lewis.
We’ve gone from Julian Lewis being an imminent flip to Georgia, then it was reported on another USC site an imminent flip to Alabama was coming, then Auburn, Indiana and now Colorado.
I’m likely one of the few who actually communicates with the Lewis family, so all other reports are coming from other sources. We get feedback from their end and the USC end.
Could JuJu still end up elsewhere, sure. But it will take a monumental screw up by USC and as of now, very very unlikely that happens. Adding the McKays to HOV is also a very positive development with the Lewis situation. We expect another USC NIL development to come, too.
That said, there’s no guarantees in recruiting until the documents are signed….and that won’t happen until December. We’re also checking on reports USC has upped their level of pursuit with five-star Corona (CA) Centennial QB Husan Longstreet.
1). Who are your favorite 2025 recruits?
2). On the current team, who was the guy as a recruit you followed most closely?
I don’t know who my favorite 2025 recruit is, but if I had to choose one guy to start my recruiting class, it would be Justus Terry. As far as the guys USC has committed, I’m a huge fan of Matai Tagoa’i.
Zachariah Branch and Makai Lemon are probably 1a and 1b for the second question.
I have heard nothing in the offseason about DJ Peevy. What is his status?
As Fall Camp progresses, we’ll be talking about DJ Peavy at some point.
With 16 players orally committed at this time, and many off the board, how many high school players do you predict signing in December/ February?
I have no chance in winning on this topic, but the plan was to take a full class. A lot will depend on how the season goes.
Would USC consider pursuing a fifth receiver like Andrew Marsh or Jerome Myles if Phillip Bell commits?
When the Tanook Hines and Daylan McCutcheon commitment announcements were approaching, I was told USC would’ve been done with pursuing wide receivers if both had committed to the Trojans. I haven’t checked in lately, but that indicated to me USC planned to take four receivers.
Do you think the big freshman on the d-line (Carlon Jones, Jide Abasiri, Kam Fountain) will play big roles this year? Or more likely Braylan Shelby and the transfers will dominate the snaps?
Based off a week of fall camp and feedback previously, I do not believe they’ll have big roles starting off the season. But we’ll have more on those guys next week. There’s just no way for us to provide a a really informed take until we’re deeper into Fall Camp.
Who is committed so far, that has the best chance of having an immediate impact for the 2025 season?
I’ll let the guys play their senior season before answering questions like that, but depth has gotten to the point it’s more difficult to project that. But I’ll go with Matai Tagoa’i.
Jerome Myles released his top ten and USC was included. How does USC feel with him?
As it stands now, I believe Jerome Myles will take an official visit and USC will be among the final few.
Opening game…give your prediction…..who ends up with more sacks (Number for each team) and more interceptions (Number for each team)…..SC or LSU?
USC. Miller Moss aint hanging onto the ball long enough to get sacked often. But the real answer is, I have no idea.
