Ryan Pellum has the top weekend of USC commits

Ryan Pellum has the top weekend of USC commits

We have reached the point of August where almost all of USC’s commits around the country all had games to play, whether it came Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. The only one who has played a game yet is Joey Olsen, who plays his season opener on the 31st. It comes as no surprise that there were some monster performances from some of the Trojans pledges.

I took a look around Twitter and Maxpreps to see some of the statlines from this weekend’s slate of games.

After gathering some numbers, it was Long Beach (Cal.) Milikan wide receiver Ryan Pellum had the biggest game of the weekend.

Pellum was able to deliver both on offense and special teams in a big 48-34 victory.

On the offensive side of the ball, Pellum hauled in seven receptions for 112 yards and two receiving touchdowns. One of his receiving touchdowns was a 32-yard catch. His most exciting play of the game though came on special teams when Pellum took the opening kickoff of the game 92-yards to the house.

The 5-foot-11, 169-pound pass-catcher is the No. 86 overall prospect and No. 16 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 player in California.

The stellar stat line is nothing unusual for Pellum but it does seem like he is playing with something adding to his game. Going to back to the middle of last season, Pellum has been on another level. Going to last season, Pellum has four 2+ touchdown performances in his past six games.

Pellum’s personal life (On3 Database)

Ryan Pellum was “destined to be great at football” ever since he was born, according to his brother and Millikan High School coach, Romeo Pellum. Pellum’s older brother played at Washington State and Hampton University. His brother played professionally in the CFL and with the AFL’s LA Kiss. Afterward, he founded Players of the Future, a 7-on-7 football program, and he currently works with EVO Sports Training in Long Beach, California. “Ryan’s not going to make it because of our family name,” Romeo Pellum told Cannon Sports. “He worked out three times a day ever since he was little. He was training consistently. He did not miss year-round speed training and year-round football training. That was established in him when he was young, and it’s helped him become the player that he is now.” That player is one of the top high school players in the Southland. In 2022, he caught 52 passes for 1,028 yards and 10 touchdowns. He averaged 19.8 yards a catch and also racked up 27 tackles on defense. Pellum also had 10 touchdown receptions as a sophomore.

Another strong performance of the weekend

I think the runner up for game of the week came from 2026 five-star quarterback Julian ‘JuJu’ Lewis. In his second game of the season, he found success early and often.

In a 49-0 victory, Lewis completed 11-of-17 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. He had no interceptions. His QB rating for the game was 147.7.
