Redshirt tracker: Trends on Kansas State freshmen
Who will redshirt and who won’t this season for Kansas State?
Kansas State QB Will Howard
Games Played: 2
Summary: Quarterback Will Howard is not going to redshirt, but one is available to him.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt.
QB Avery Johnson
Games Played: 1
Summary: I’m still very, very intrigued to see how Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson is used the rest of the season. It is very hard to change up at quarterback mid-game and putting him at wide receiver or running back for a play or two just seems silly in my opinion. It is noteworthy that it was still Howard who took the last snap of the game against Troy and not Johnson.
Projection: Plays and redshirts.
RB Joe Jackson
Games Played: 1
Summary: I think we’ll see Joe Jackson again later in the K-State season.
Projection: Plays and redshirts.
Joe Jackson/Kansas State Athletics
K-State WR Tre Spivey
Games Played: 1
Summary: Like with Jackson, I think we’ll see Tre Spivey again. But he arrived in June, not January, and he is playing catch-up a bit because of it.
Projection: Plays and redshirts.
WR Andre Davis
Games Played: 0
Summary: Kansas State receiver Andre Davis may be injured. He was not in uniform against the Trojans.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts.
Kansas State WR Jayce Brown
Games Played: 2
Summary: Wideout Jayce Brown is trending towards not redshirting after playing on Saturday. It probably makes sense for at least one of the four K-State receivers to not redshirt to provide separation in classification.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt.
WR Wesley Watson
Games Played: 0
Summary: It appears that Wesley Watson will likely use his first year as a developmental one.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts.
K-State TE Ben Sinnott
Games Played: 2
Summary: Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott is not going to redshirt, obviously.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt.
TE Will Anciaux
Games Played: 0
Summary: The expectation continues to be that Will Anciaux will redshirt this year while working to add some weight.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts.
TE Andrew Metzger
Games Played: 0
Summary: My opinion is that Andrew Metzger is probably more college ready than Anciaux from a physical standpoint. However, like with Anciaux, I don’t think we’ll see him this season.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts.
Kansas State OL Hadley Panzer
Games Played: 2
Summary: He is the starting right guard. Hadley Panzer won’t redshirt.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
OL Camden Beebe
Games Played: 0
Summary: There’s too much depth on the K-State offensive line, especially on the interior, for Camden Beebe to play this season.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts
OL Jackson Fullmer
Games Played: 0
Summary: Like with Beebe, there’s too much depth on the Kansas State offensive line for Jackson Fullmer to play this season. Fullmer has been impressive thus far, though.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts.
OL Devin Vass
Games Played: 0
Summary: It would be a surprise if Devin Vass played this year.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts.
Uso Seumalo/Kansas State Athletics
K-State NG Uso Seumalo
Games Played: 2
Summary: He has been very, very disruptive in the first two games of the season. The hype around K-State nose guard Uso Seumalo this offseason seems to be correct.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt.
NG Asher Tomaszewski
Games Played: 1
Summary: Technically, Asher Tomaszewski is a plays and redshirt projection. But I’m not sure if he plays again this season.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
Kansas State DE Nate Matlack
Games Played: 2
Summary: We have seen a great start to the season from Nate Matlack. He won’t redshirt.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
DE Jordan Allen
Games Played: 0
Summary: We have been told that Kansas State true freshman Jordan Allen is a bit banged up at the moment and has been for much of the last month. That has contributed to his name not being called. I think he’s still going to play at some point this season, though.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
K-State DE Chiddi Obiazor
Games Played: 1
Summary: After not playing against Troy, I lean towards Chiddi Obiazor being a redshirt candidate.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
DE Ryan Davis
Games Played: 0
Summary: It’s likely going to be a developmental year for Ryan Davis.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts
Kansas State LB Jake Clifton
Games Played: 1
Summary: Linebacker Jake Clifton just missed his first game of the season due to injury, but it won’t be his last. He shouldn’t be out long enough for K-State to consider a redshirt, though.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
LB Rex Van Wyhe
Games Played: 0
Summary: Another player that didn’t participate on Saturday was Kansas State linebacker Rex Van Wyhe. Perhaps we see him at some point this season, but he’s on track to redshirt.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
LB Collin Dunn
Games Played: 0
Summary: I would be stunned if Collin Dunn played for K-State this season.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts
Austin Romaine/KSO – Drew Galloway
K-State LB Austin Romaine
Games Played: 2
Summary: To be honest, the most impressive Kansas State true freshman so far might be linebacker Austin Romaine. Without Clifton available at the moment, there’s no chance he redshirts.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
LB Asa Newsom
Games Played: 2
Summary: True freshman Asa Newsom is another heavily trending towards not redshirting. He is in the regular rotation.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
Kansas State CB Jacob Parrish
Games Played: 2
Summary: It seems wild to already be calling Jacob Parrish a sophomore. The starting K-State cornerback is already one of the best players on the roster.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
CB Donovan McIntosh
Games Played: 0
Summary: Although Donovan McIntosh possesses a lot of speed, it’s doubtful he hits the field this year.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts
K-State CB Kanijal Thomas
Games Played: 2
Summary: We saw Kanijal Thomas on the Kansas State punt return unit for most of Saturday’s contest.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
Kansas State S VJ Payne
Games Played: 2
Summary: Defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman and K-State will have VJ Payne starting at safety throughout this season.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
VJ Payne/USA Today
S Jack Fabris
Games Played: 2
Summary: Even with Marques Sigle back from his suspension, Jack Fabris still saw some time early in the game. He is in the rotation.
Projection: Plays and doesn’t redshirt
S Kameron Sallis
Games Played: 0
Summary: A lot of players made the field on Saturday. Kameron Sallis was not one of them. He’s still figuring it out and growing into his body. Physically, he’s up to speed and looks the part.
Projection: Doesn’t play and redshirts
K-State S Wesley Fair
Games Played: 1
Summary: I think we’ll probably see Wesley Fair again this season, but he did not play against Troy.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
S Daniel Cobbs
Games Played: 0
Summary: Kansas State safety Daniel Cobbs did not play in the contest against the Trojans. It may be a developmental year for him since he arrived so late.
Projection: Plays and redshirts
