Potential top in-state target reacts to Kansas State offer
While Kansas State is still putting the finishing touches on the 2024 class, more attention is still being placed on the 2025 and even the 2026 classes. The Wildcats hosted Michael Boganowski last week, but they have also honed in on underclassman targets like Linkon Cure and DaSaahn Brame as well.
Boganowski is No. 1 in the state for 2024. Jayden Woods is No. 1 in 2025 and could visit K-State in the near future, but the Wildcats did have 2026 Wichita linebacker JohnMichael Fountain on campus over the weekend and extended him a scholarship.
It is the second offer for the sophomore, as Iowa State offered the linebacker in July. The early offers are a pretty strong hint, but he may be the best that the Sunflower State has to offer in his particular recruiting cycle.
He saw the Kansas State offer as more validation.
“The offer was very exciting,” Fountain said. “And it just lets me and everyone else know how hard I have been working these past couple of months.”
It was K-State Director of Recruiting Taylor Braet who extended the scholarship to the high school sophomore.
“Braet was telling me about how long they were watching me and how much potential I really have,” Fountain pointed out.
Fountain was one of the headliners who was on hand for the Kansas State contest against Troy. The visit left a big impact on him.
“It was very cool,” he mentioned. “That was actually my first ever college game I have been to, so it was very exciting. Most definitely the atmosphere was my favorite part. A lot of people showed up, and it was really cool. Just how loud and excited everyone was when someone would score or they would get a stop on the fourth down. It was amazing.”
It is still extremely early in his recruitment. He is still not allowed to initiate contact with the K-State coaches just yet, for example. Because of that, Braet has been his lead recruiter thus far and has the Wildcats in a strong, early spot.
“We haven’t really talked a lot, but I believe it is very close,” he noted. “Most definitely the camp invites have stood out in our conversations. I haven’t made it to one yet, but I plan on making the next one.”
Seeing the Kansas State linebackers in person for the first time was a positive experience for the Wichita Northwest star, too.
“They are most definitely physical and definitely fast,” Fountain shared. “And they are very great playmakers.”
Fountain is also planning on visiting Iowa State and Missouri this season. He does not have a date scheduled for those visits yet, though.
