Previewing Michigan State’s June 23 official visit part two

Previewing Michigan State’s June 23 official visit part two

Michigan State will welcome what is likely the most impactful official visitor weekend yet, welcoming nine official visitors to East Lansing over the weekend of June 23. The Spartans will look to build on their current recruiting class, holding five commitments. Michigan State landed two of their most recent commitments out of the June 9 official visit weekend, as four-star defensive back Reggie Powers, and three-star cornerback Camren Campbell both joined the group after their official visits.

In part one of this article, we took a look at the four highest rated visitors of the group. In part two, we will look at the next four scheduled visitors.

Four-star DB Jamari Howard, Miami (FL) Central

The visitor list grew again on June 23 with the addition of four-star defensive back Jamari Howard. The former Michigan State commit will make his first trip back to campus since decommitting from the Spartans in May. Jim Salgado will look to continue building the relationship with Howard in person over the weekend.

Howard took an official visit to Rutgers (June 9), with Florida and Florida State remaining major contenders. Like another weekend official visitor Nick Marsh, the Spartans will look to spark the feelings that lead to the first commitment, as Howard originally committed after his first visit last September. The in-state schools will be tough to overcome, but Michigan State clearly holds a strong spot on his list.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is the No. 75 overall prospect, the No. 10 cornerback, and the No. 14 recruit in Florida by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.

Three-star DB Justin Denson, Providence (RI) La Salle Academy

Michigan State will welcome back three-star defensive back Justin Denson for his third visit to East Lansing and his final official visit of his recruitment. Denson released a top five, including Michigan State, Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Florida, along with a commitment date of July 1.

The Spartans will get the last at-bat for Denson, who visited Florida on June 9 and Oklahoma on June 16. Denson also made a mid-week visit to Alabama on June 22.

Denson has grown close with Michigan State secondary coach Harlon Barnett since the Spartans offered in January. His mother has also been supportive of the Spartans in the past. Michigan State will look to overcome the late push from Oklahoma and Alabama, also battling the Gators on the official visit over the weekend.

Denson is ranked the No. 655 overall recruit, the No. 68 safety, and the No. 1 recruit in Rhode Island by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.

Three-star OL Mercer and Charlton Luniewski, Cincinnati (OH) Hills Christian Academy

Lastly, Michigan State will welcome pair of twin offensive lineman Mercer Luniewski, and Charlton Luniewski on their second visit to East Lansing. The first visit came earlier this spring for a Spartan practice.

Both twins hold offers from Michigan State, building a strong relationship with Spartan associate head coach/run game coordinator/offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. The twins are firm on their plans to play together at the next level.

Mercer (6-5.5, 310) holds offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Virginia, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and more. He is ranked the No. 768 overall recruit, the No. 56 offensive tackle, and the No. 29 recruit in Ohio by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.

Charlton (6-4.5, 285) holds offers from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Virginia, Pittsburgh, and more. He is ranked the No. 1336 overall recruit, the No. 113 offensive guard, and the No. 61 recruit in Ohio by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. It will be the first visit to East Lansing for both twins. Michigan State will look to build on their two-man 2024 offensive line class. Andrew Dennis (6-4, 285) of Mount Pleasant (MI) committed to the Spartans in early April. He was joined by Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy offensive tackle Logan Bennett (6-5,3 310), who committed on April 15.
