Penn State-West Virginia set for tentative restart time; what channel will it be on?

Morgantown — Penn State-West Virginia has a tentative restart time. The non-conference game serving as the season opener for both teams will resume at 4:05 pending no more lighting strikes in the area. It entered a weather delay at 2:04 p.m. ET during halftime. Lightning in the area of Milan Puskar Stadium was the reason for it. Then, rain blew into the campus area here. The wind picked up, too. But, thunder never arrived. Regardless, once the action begins with the start of the second half, the delay will have lasted 2 hours and 1 minutes.

On the television front, FOX aired the first half. It currently plans to air the second half. But, it could change course. This story will be updated when details are finalized.

Penn State will receive the second half kickoff. Head coach James Franklin’s team leads the Mountaineers 20-6. Quarterback Drew Allar has three touchdown tosses, two of which went to receiver Harrison “Trey” Wallace III.

“Well, early on and we just didn’t get in rhythm, whether it was penalties or whether it was fumbled snaps and things like that,” Franklin told FOX’s Jenny Taft. “Once we got them calmed down, I thought we did some really good things.”

“Yeah, offensively, we got to sustain some drives, and I’m saying that to help our defense out,” Franklin said. “And then we got to get some three and outs on defense to get them off the field. They did a good job sustaining some drives, and that obviously right before the half was big. I’ve been saying since the 90s: ducks accepted, spirals preferred, but we’ll take a duck anytime.”

What will be the key for Penn State in the second half?

Without question, the focus for the Nittany Lions will be to take the ball and run with it, quite literally, once the action finally resumes. Allar’s 18-yard scoring strike to Wallace that capped a three-play, 73-yard scoring drive gave the visitors both a bigger lead and the momentum heading into halftime. That is now gone, however, considering how long both teams just sat around. So, coming out fast is important for Franklin’s side so that it does not let West Virginia back into a game that it currently trails by 14 points.

The running game did not get going in the first half. On slick turf, it would be a good time to change that regardless of whether or not rain continues to fall once the game is back underway. Andy Kotelnicki was creative over the first 30 minutes to get the passing game going. Now, he must do the same for the rushing attack to give the Lions their best chance to win.
