On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: New pick logged for Auburn

Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star EDGE Jared Smith is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 3. The No. 42 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking named Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina and USC his final six schools.

The 6-foot-6, 235-pounder took official visits to each of those schools outside of Auburn. He was on the Plains for an unofficial visit though with his team for a 7v7 last month and he is very familiar with the in-state school.

Heading into the official visits, the buzz was around South Carolina. The Gamecocks have made Smith a top priority from the beginning of his recruitment. Ole Miss made a big impression in the spring when they had him in Oxford too.

Coming out of the visits and looking ahead to his commitment, Auburn has picked up some momentum. Smith is set to be back on campus later this month for Big Cat Weekend. Josh Aldridge has been his lead recruiter, but multiple coaches have been involved, including head coach Hugh Freeze.

Auburn has made a big push for Smith. His recruitment is far from over, but the Tigers are surging late with a commitment less than a month away.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favors South Carolina, but I have moved my pick to Auburn. Freeze is working hard to land many of the best in Alabama this cycle and they have a chance to come from behind and land Smith early next month.

Thompson’s teammate Auquon Fegans is set to commit on July 29. He will be at Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend as well.
