Ole Miss extends offer to Bartlett (Tenn.) running back Geron Johnson
It was a busy weekend at Ole Miss. It was the first big camp weekend in Oxford, Miss. Friday was the ever-popular “Friday Night Lights” and Saturday was a team 7v7 competition. But, the staff was also doing some recruiting. The Rebels added two transfer portal commits and four-star safety Keon Young committed. On Sunday, the staff continued the hustle and offered Bartlett (Tenn.) running back Geron Johnson.
The 6-foot, 180 pound prospect tweeted the news out, receiving the offer from Ole Miss running backs coach, Kevin Smith. As a junior, Johnson ran for 1,882 yards and 24 touchdowns. The year before, he was just as lethal, running for 990 yards and 20 more scores.
He’s also a standout in track and field. This spring, he set two school records, running a 10.78 in the 100M and 21.46 in the 200M.
Bartlett Panther Geron Johnson (6) rushes the ball against the Germantown Red Devils in a playoff game on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Germantown High in Germantown, Tenn. The Red Devils defeated the Panthers 35-16 and will advance to the quarterfinals.
Ole Miss is also recruiting Johnson’s close friend, Jamarion Morrow.
The Germantown (Tenn.) four-star running back is one of the top targets on the 2025 board for the Ole Miss staff. Quitman (Miss.) four-star running back Akylin Dear is already committed, but this is something Morrow is not only comfortable with, but something he thinks can help them.
“I talked to coach (Kevin) Smith about it, I was there the day AK (Dear) committed. We can both do whatever we need to do, get the ball plenty,” Morrow told OMSpirit earlier this month. “We’re two different kind of running backs and I feel like we can both have a lot of success.”
