Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State recruiting Q&A (8/27/23)

In tonight’s Michigan State Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State recruiting questions submitted via the Underground Bunker message board. We will also discuss other Spartan recruiting news.

“Any DL options for 2024 where we sit well” -MSUbass

Michigan State sits well in the recruitment of Francis Brewu, of Columbus (OH) Thomas Worthington High School. Brewu has been committed to Pittsburgh since March, but did take a visit to East Lansing at the end of July. The Spartans and defensive line coach Diron Reynolds will look to host the three-star once again for a game this fall. Miami (FL) also just offered the Ohio defensive lineman, with top target and five-star David Stone committed to Oklahoma over the Spartans and Hurricanes. Miami will be worth watching as they join the recruitment.

Brewu (6-3, 270) currently ranks a three-star, the No. 799 overall recruit by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 77 defensive tackle and the No. 32 recruit in Ohio.

The Spartans and Reynolds also recently offered 6-foot-4, 264-pound defensive tackle Chukwunedu Okeke of Mabelton (GA) Pebblebrook High School earlier this month. Okeke is currently committed to Western Kentucky. He holds other offers from Maryland, Syracuse, Memphis, and more. The Spartans could close the deal with Okeke on a trip to East Lansing this fall, depending on how hard they pursue.

Michigan State also recently offered Washington commitment Dominic Kirks, of Cleveland (OH) Villa Angela- St. Joseph School this summer. It is unclear the interest level from the Huskies commtiment, but look for the Spartans to push for a fall visit from Kirks as well.

Kirks (6-5, 250) is ranked a four-star, the No. 377 overall recruit in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 33 defensive lineman and the No. 15 recruit in Ohio.
