More than football makes Florida a strong contender for IOL John Mills

When John Mills officially visits Florida this weekend, it will mark his third up-close look at the SEC program.

The offensive lineman out of San Francisco (Cali.) St. Ignatius College Preparatory first visited in late January and then returned to Gainesville on March 30; now, he’s ready to receive the Gators’ final presentation ahead of a likely summer commitment.

On3 ranks Mills as the No. 26 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class.

“I’m excited to see the guys and team, and just more of Gainesville and the university,” Mills told Gators Online.

For the past several months, several Florida Gators coaches have been involved in Mills’ recruitment, with one being co-offensive line coach John Decoster. The early returns on him are strong, but it’s co-offensive coordinator/offensive lineman Rob Sale who Mills primarily communicates with.

Just a few weeks ago, the Gators assistant was in California to reconnect with Mills and his parents as well.

“I speak with coach Sale most of the time. A lot of the time I speak with him,” said Mills. “He talks about how he wants me to be a Gator and asks how my family is doing.”

John Mills has narrowed his focus to five schools

After visiting Florida, Mills will then travel to Texas on June 14 for what should be his final official visit.

Washington, California and Nebraska have already received OVs, with the Huskies having played host this past weekend. Those are the five schools currently sitting in the best spot.

As for the Gators, what makes them a top contender for the 6-foot-5, 290-pound rising senior?

“So, I really like Florida the state and the overall weather,” said Mills. “It seems like it would be a cool spot to go and go to school. I like hunting and fishing and that’s super available in Florida. I also like the coaches and what they are going to do in the future.

“Florida is in my top five for sure. I just got to go finish this OV and then the Texas one before seeing where it all stands. I’m going to take a week or two after the Texas OV and then hopefully make a decision.”

The Longhorns, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, are trending with odds of 81.5 percent.
