Miami priority RB Shekai Mills-Knight locks in official visit, talks interest in Hurricanes: ‘It’s all about The U’
Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School three-star running back Shekai Mills-Knight initially wasn’t sure if he’d want to take an official visit to Miami after four-star prospect Girard Pringle committed last month, but the No. 477 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking has now locked in a summer trip to Coral Gables after visiting in early Apri.
Miami has continued to aggressively pursue the 6-foot-2, 210-pound running back this spring and has locked in a May 31 official visit with the touted prospect. Mills-Knight has also locked in official visits with Oregon, Ohio State, Auburn and Tennessee and said Alabama and Ole Miss are additionally catching his attention, although the five programs he’s locked in summer officials with are standing out the most.
“I feel like they’re building something special up (at Miami), especially with these past two recruiting classes,” Mills-Knight said. “They’ve been recruiting some dogs and some really good O-linemen, so you can never go wrong with that. They had a bunch of true freshmen O-linemen (last year), so by the time I get there they’d be juniors and they’d be really productive. That really caught my attention. And The U. It’s all about The U.”
Mills-Knight said Miami’s staff told him Pringle’s commitment didn’t affect their interest in him. Miami plans on taking two running backs this cycle and believes Mills-Knight’s skillset could compliment Pringle’s and give the Hurricanes a thunder-and-lightning duo, he said.
“They told me we’re different backs and we could really be that one-two punch and just dominate together,” Mills-Knight said. “They said with me, in my case, I can pass block and I’m an all-purpose back who can catch passes too, and they need that for the quarterback. They told me, ‘We wouldn’t have to take you out. You’re a different (skillset) than Pringle,’ you know?”
Mills-Knight said his April 9 visit for a spring practice made a significant impression on him and boosted Miami’s stock. He said he plans on committing to the school “that feels the most like home to me” later this summer, adding that he’ll have a gut feeling when the time is right to pull the trigger. He said he wants to commit before the start of his senior season and could potentially make an announcement during an official visit if the time is right, although he isn’t banking on a specific date.
CaneSport’s Take
Mills-Knight is a clear Miami running back target, but also keep an eye on four-star prospects like Byron Louis and Ousmane Kromah as the potential second back in this class. Miami has also kept in contact with running backs like D’Shaun Ford and Jasper Parker.
