Miami a top contender for On300 WR Tyler Williams with spring practice visits concluded
Miami’s decision to offer Tampa (Fla.) Sumner On300 2025 receiver Tyler Williams in January — and subsequently get the newly-anointed four-star wideout to campus the following weekend — is starting to pay dividends as Williams begins to slowly cut down his list.
The No. 211 overall prospect in the On300 and No. 27 receiver in the class has remained high on the Hurricanes and views Miami as one of his top contenders after visiting numerous schools for spring practices and games during March and April. The 6-foot-2, 187-pound receiver has visited Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn since the start of April and visited Miami and Florida during March as he continues to set up official visits. Williams has official visits locked in with Miami, Syracuse, UCF and Georgia.
Williams said Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and Syracuse all impressed him in major ways during spring visits, although he said there are “probably 12 or 13 schools” he’s considering total. But in a recruitment where relationships matter, his connections with Miami’s staff have continued to help the Hurricanes’ chances.
“I feel really close with Miami, Syracuse and Georgia now that I’ve been (to each school), put names to faces and that stuff, that really helped,” Williams said. “Those are ones I feel really good about. Other schools, it might not be the whole staff, but there are certain coaches I feel I’m really good with. UCF, I’m really close with that whole staff. They’ve been recruiting me probably the longest out of all of these schools. Florida, that whole staff too. That definitely plays a part in choosing (these programs) as some of my top schools.”
Williams said Miami has made him feel like a priority since offering him in January and quickly getting him down to campus along with his teammate, 2025 three-star ATH Cameron White. Miami’s staff has also recruited Williams’ family by regularly texting and calling them, and Williams said the staff “feels like family” when he’s spent time around them.
“(Relationships) definitely play a big part in it,” Williams said. “I feel like all of these schools are very similar in a way; the only thing that separates them is the people in the schools. They all have nice facilities. They all like to win games. They all have good cultures, but I feel like the people in the facilities are what makes a difference.”
Williams said he’s looking to commit sometime later this summer or around the start of his senior season.
CaneSport’s Take
Williams didn’t start receiving serious national attention as a recruit until this spring, so he spent most of March and April trying to visit as many programs as he could rather than waiting for one school to clearly separate from the pack. But the four schools he’s locked in official visits with are clearly in more comfortable positions right now.
