Miami is back in contention for local 4-star CB Jamari Howard
Over the last couple of months, Miami has not been a name attached to Jamari Howard. The former Michigan State commit took official visits to East Lansing and Rutgers over the summer. Florida was viewed as a favorite in the spring. Late in the summer, the buzz around Florida State picked up. Now you can add Miami to that list.
The No. 124 prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings was in Coral Gables Saturday to see the Hurricanes knock off Texas A&M 48-33. Miami is quickly back in the mix for the local defender.
“Miami is back on my list,” Howard told On3. “What puts them back in contention is the coming back to the old Miami. That was a big win. It didn’t really surprise me, but they played well and they got a big win. The visit and how they played helped them.”
Howard isn’t ready to speak on just where Miami is on his list. He said that is still to be determined.
“I want to see how they recruit me now. Since they reached out and invited me to the game, I have been talking to them more. Coach Bennedick Hyppolite and Coach Mario Cristobal have been in contact more recently, so we will see how it goes.
“Miami was never out of it for me, but I wasn’t looking at them too hard for a little while. I took the visit, they played well and now I can say I will consider taking an official visit there.”
The four-star cornerback out of Miami Norland has been to Miami before, but the crowd and atmosphere were not the same as it was Saturday. Howard saw a sold-out crowd and he liked what he saw on and off the field.
“The game was great,” Howard added. “It was a big win for the team and it was an exciting atmosphere. I hadn’t seen it like that before. The defensive line got pressure, the safeties made plays over the top and it felt different this time.
“Miami is right back up there for me now and we will see how it goes from here.”
