Miami commit Zaquan Patterson fired up after spending Saturday in recruiting section: “This was definitely a big win”
Leading up to Miami’s matchup against Texas A&M, many questioned whether Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and his team would be up for the challenge against a team that they struggled against last season.
Someone who didn’t: Miami commit Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star safety Zaquan Patterson.
“I always said that I believe coach Cristobal knows what it takes to win and what it would take to bring Miami back,” Patterson told CaneSport. “As of right now, he’s showing that. It was a great win and a great team effort. They never dropped their heads, even after they went down early in the game. I knew we won the game when we were down by three. They couldn’t stop our offense, and they couldn’t score on us without getting put on our 20-yard line.”
Following the matchup, Patterson, who is the No. 80 overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking and the No. 3 safety in the country, joined Miami in celebration in the locker room.
“I know so many of them, so it was nice seeing my guys,” Patterson said. “Guys like James (Williams), Mark (Fletcher), TC (Te’Cory Couch), and a bunch of other guys that I knew when I was younger.”
According to Patterson, this win for Miami is exactly what the program needed as they hope to continue to build in the right direction.
“This was definitely a big win,” Patterson said. “Really, because a lot of people thought Miami wasn’t going to be good this year. I feel like it’s all about the process, and I preach that. I obviously had to believe it to commit here. I’m just enjoying it.”
With a handful of Miami’s top 2024 targets in attendance alongside Patterson Saturday night, including Dayton Beach (Fla.) Mainland four-star duo of LJ McCray and Zay Mincey, the 6-foot, 185-pounder wants it to be known that now more than ever is the time to commit to Cristobal and the Hurricanes.
“Slide,” Patterson said when asked what his message was to any recruits considering Miami. “Come to Miami and come be great. Come be a part of a legacy that’s not like any other. It’s nothing like this city when we’re winning.”

Patterson may have said it best when describing how big this was for Miami and Cristobal this season. After committing to the program less than a month ago, Patterson has begun to do his fair share of recruiting, which is something Miami has to love to see.
