Joshua Moore’s QBs ‘blown away’ by his immense talents
HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA — Asked to assess the ability of 4-star recruit Joshua Moore, his team’s star receiver, West Broward (Fla.) High quarterback Dylan Pelliccio thought for a moment, then said this: “He definitely makes my job easier. That’s the best way to put it.”
Pelliccio is one half of a two-QB tandem at West Broward. Tyler Shattuck is the other. Both players are seniors and each is playing his first season at the school. For Pelliccio and Shattuck, the first up-close look at Moore, the talented Florida Gators commit, came during spring practice.
And, they agreed, it was eye-opening.
“I was straight up blown away,” Shattuck, who has an offer from Western Michigan, told Gators Online. “I thought someone that size couldn’t be that fast, too. And his speed just blew me away.”
Joshua Moore is coming off 2 big seasons
Joshua Moore, listed at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, shined during his previous two seasons at West Broward and recorded 50 catches each year. All told, Moore had 100 receptions for 1,869 yards and 20 touchdowns combined in 2022 and 2023. Now, it’s up to Pelliccio and Shattuck to get the ball to Moore, the No. 9 receiver in the country for On3.
The pair described Moore as, well, a physical freak. They both said they view him as a complete receiver who has very few weak points.
“He’s physical. He’s sneaky fast. You can really throw it anywhere around him and he’ll grab it,” Pelliccio said. “And after the catch, I think that’s where he shines. He’s just really hard to bring down. He has long arms and can stiff arm people.”
Joshua Moore’s best attribute (and he has many) might be how well he uses his body to catch throws others might not get to.
“Jump ball,” Shattuck said. “You throw that ball up to him, he’s going to come down with it every single time no matter what. Also, his speed after the catch makes him almost unguardable.”
Added, Pelliccio, “He has great hands.” Both quarterbacks said they could count on one hand the number of drops Moore has had since the spring. “Very, very, very few,” according to Pelliccio
Given Moore’s immense talent, playmaking ability and the fact he’s a huge part of the West Broward offense, Pelliccio and Shattuck anticipate opposing teams going all out to slow Moore down.
“They’re gonna try to bracket him, double him,” Pelliccio told Gators Online. “I don’t think a team is going to leave him with man-on-man coverage.”
But ….
“He’s still probably going to catch the ball,” Pelliccio said.
