Future Sooners: In-State Battle for MVP
A few of Oklahoma’s class of 2024 and 2025 prospects have already started their season and even more are getting rolling this week. With the season now upon us it’s time for our first look at ‘Future Sooners’ and gauging just how Oklahoma’s pledges fared in their week two games. Also, a look at where the current Oklahoma commitments can be seen this upcoming weekend around the country.
The Skinny: Aisosa and Santa Fe had their game against Choctaw canceled due to the shooting at Choctaw the week before.
Next Week: Santa Fe (1-0) is hosting Norman North.
The Skinny: Autry and Itawamba trailed from beginning to end but nearly pulled off a late comeback scoring twice in the final eight minutes to make it 23-21.
Next Week: Itawamba (1-1) is hosting Oxford Lafayette.
The Skinny: Guyer went into one of the biggest games in Dallas/Ft. Worth coming up just short of Aledo 48-45. The talented Oklahoma commitment had two tackles for loss on the night.
Next Week: Guyer (1-1) is traveling to Lancaster.
The Skinny: Brooks and Sierra Canyon put together their most lopsided win of the season, crushing Henderson (Nev.) Green Valley 56-0. Brooks kept his quarterback clean to throw for over 250 yards and four touchdowns. He also helped his running backs to 8.4-yards per carry.
Next Week: Sierra Canyon (3-0) has the week off.
The Skinny: Carreon and Odessa had a late drive to take a 22-20 lead on a last second field goal. On that drive Carreon had a key 20-yard reception. He also had two first half touchdowns (2, 31).
Next Week: Odessa (1-1) is traveling to Keller.
The Skinny: Daniels had two catches for 67 yards but Franklinton came up just short of Bogalusa 36-31.
Next Week: Franklinton (0-1) is traveling to Covington.
The Skinny: Timber Creek and Ezukanma fought through a tough one, 21-14 over Prosper Rock Creek. Ezukanma did plenty of the lifting with three carries for 27 yards and four receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns (32, 9).
Next Week: Timber Creek (2-0) is traveling to Coppell.
The Skinny: Rogers and Gilmore started their season with a bang downing Sartell-St. Stephen 45-0.
Next Week: Rogers (1-0) are hosting Moorhead.
The Skinny: Hardy and Lewisville fought hard against traditional power Highland Park but came up just short, 21-18. He had four receptions for 61 yards and a 19-yard touchdown. He also threw for a two-point conversion and had a tackle on defense.
Next Week: Lewisville (1-1) is traveling to Mesquite.
The Skinny: Ennis and Harris had another tough night falling to Midlothian 32-17. The Sooners commitment had four catches for 62 yards on the night.
Next Week: Ennis (0-2) is traveling to Colleyville Heritage.
The Skinny: Hawkins had his second straight clean start going 11-16 for 200 yards and three touchdowns (69, 25, 4) as well as four carries for 60 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown, as Emerson downed Woodrow Wilson 41-21.
Next Week: Emerson (2-0) is traveling to Frisco Panther Creek.
The Skinny: IMG’s big game against Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson was canceled due to hurricane Idalia.
Next Week: IMG (2-0) is traveling to Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis
The Skinny: Kearney, an Oklahoma commitment, helped Hightower down traditional Houston powerhouse Spring Westfield 14-9.
Next Week: Hightower (2-0) is hosting Ft. Bend Travis.
The Skinny: Los Al got its first out of state win downing Provo (Utah) Timpview 57-35.
Next Week: Los Alamitos (3-0) is meeting Anaheim Servite.
The Skinny: North and Moore just kept rolling while downing Park Hill South 39-24. Moore had a handful of tackles and ‘a ton of’ quarterback hurries against PSH.
Next Week: North (2-0) is traveling to Staley.
The Skinny: Casteel and Newcombe got a key win 35-28 over Queen Creek. Newcombe, the long-time Sooners defensive back commitment, had his hand in things with a tackle and an interception.
Next Week: Casteel (2-0) is traveling to Carlsbad, Calif.
The Skinny: Hough’s defense was once again stout but downed South Carolina powerhouse Dutch Fork 20-17.
Next Week: Hough (2-1) has the week off.
The Skinny: Nickens was held out of the first quarter for disciplinary reasons but in the second half had two catches including a 9-yard touchdown. Still though Millwood fell to Heritage Hall 47-24.
Next Week: Millwood (0-1) is hosting Douglass on Sat., Sept. 9.
The Skinny: Westmoore and Patterson-McDonald got back on track with a 54-28 demolition of Yukon.
Next Week: Westmoore (1-1) is traveling to Choctaw.
The Skinny: Ragins had six receptions for 50 yards but it wasn’t enough as Jones County took a tough loss against Perry 54-21.
Next Week: Jones County (1-2) is hosting Peach County.
The Skinny: Carl Albert and Robinson got a key win on the east side of Oklahoma City crushing rival Midwest City 40-13. The Oklahoma pledge had a big night with 14 carries for 158 yards rushing and four touchdowns, including a 78-yard score.
Next Week: Carl Albert (2-0) is traveling to Muskogee.
The Skinny: Sperry took the majority of the snaps for the Titans as they beat Midwest City 40-13. He had an early interception but bounced back with a beautiful touchdown throw to Trynae Washington.

WEEK 2 MVP
The Skinny: The Sooners commit got Longview on the winning track with a 42-7 demolition of Marshall. He had 12 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns along with a 42-yard reception.
Next Week: Longview (1-1) is hosting Tyler Legacy.
The Skinny: Another week another massive performance from Thomas, he had a pair of first half touchdowns and 142 yards receiving. One of those touchdowns was an end of first half hail mary where Thomas stepped in front of a would-be interception and then got his foot down for the score. Unfortunately for Thomas and Checotah it wasn’t enough as they fell to Claremore Sequoyah 42-27.
Next Week: Checotah (1-1) is hosting Haskell.
The Skinny: The Sooners commit lost his first game of the season falling to Streetsboro 37-28 after being outscored 23-0 in the fourth quarter. Zurbrugg was 12-20 for 144 yards and an interception through the air. But on the ground he had 10 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown.
Next Week: Alliance (2-1) is hosting Akron Ellett.
