Floyd Boucard blown away by Hurricanes official visit, has decision plan in place: “The dynamic at Miami is just incredible”
Miami Central defensive tackle Floyd Boucard’s recruitment has been a well-documented slugfest since the Canadian-born three-star prospect transferred from an Alabama high school to Central this spring. But after his weekend official visit to Coral Gables, he likes where things sit with the Hurricanes.
Boucard returned to Miami for the fourth time this year as the Hurricanes continue to battle programs like USC, Oklahoma and Alabama (he visits USC the 7th, Oklahoma the 14th and replaced Oregon with Alabama the 21st).
“Man, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but they really made this fun for me and my family,” Boucard said. “The dynamic at Miami is just incredible.

“They made sure for each player they had the whole staff hyping you up. They made it comfortable. You didn’t just go there to do business and have fun, they made it comfortable for you to be around them.”
He said that feeling started from the top, with coach Mario Cristobal.
“He’s not a big-headed coach, it wasn’t `Oh, I’m the head coach, I’m not going to be around them,’” Boucard said. “He was there enjoying, talking to us. It was just a great experience.”
Yes, the 6-foot-3, 315-pound interior defender said Miami set a really high bar.
“It’s going to be hard to beat that, the way they were acting toward me…” Boucard said. “The boat ride (with coaches and recruits) was amazing, Cristobal’s house was amazing, the vibe was incredible. He has lots of good gadgets over there – a hidden mini-fridge that is real cool!”
Boucard has previously said he believes he could make a decision sometime during his senior season. Today he specified that he could announce either July 20 or at the Miami Central vs. Miami Northestern game this fall.
A final thought from Boucard off the visit?
“The standard is so high right now, it’s going to be a hard decision for me,” Boucard said. “The City of Miami can’t compare – Tuscaloosa, Oklahoma, it’s not the same. So they really have to do their best and work hard, because this right here sets a high standard for how they can be. I’m expecting a little more from other schools, but if they don’t, at least they tried and I gave them opportunities and they gave me opportunities.”
CaneSport’s Take
Boucard isn’t originally from Miami, so there isn’t a significant local connection to the city like there is with the other three major Miami Central recruits (Ezekiel Marcelin, Randy Adirika and Amari Wallace). So if Miami wins this recruitment, it’ll be because the Hurricanes truly showed they can offer more than other schools. “The way Miami is doing their recruitment, they’re not scared, they know what they’ve got,” Boucard said. “They were like `Oh yeah, other visits are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, go ahead and do that. But we know you’re going to be a Hurricane.’ So I respect that. But they really set that high.”
