Day One: Shane Beamer Football Camp Insider

The first day of South Carolina’s summer football camps kicked off on Friday.

GamecockCentral.com was on hand to observe the action and has notes, exclusively for subscribers.

— There were a couple of questions coming into the day that needed to be answered on in-state defender Jaquel Holman.

One was how he would measure and test. Those metrics figured to turn out well, since he just captured a few state titles in his first year running track.

The Blackville-Hilda product turned in a 4.49 second forty-yard dash time and clocked a sub-4.3 second time in the shuttle.

Clayton White and Torrian Gray also wanted to get a look at his positional projection for the next level. Holman came into the day classified as a linebacker and spent his time on the day working at that spot.

We noticed him turn in a couple of strong reps in one-on-ones that resulted in the ball hitting the turf and not a receiver’s hands.

Holman could probably be a bigger safety or a linebacker at the next level. As of this writing, no offer had been dispensed. There will be some discussions on this one.

— Tennessee and Michigan had already offered linebacker Kaden Carter coming into his camp visit to South Carolina, and the Gamecocks got a good look on Friday.

The 2026 product turned in some solid testing numbers and is a player the staff could opt to move in on with an offer.

— A trio of 2027 quarterbacks who were expected all made it in; Champ Smith, Cooper Newman, and Trent Seaborn.

We got the closest look at Seaborn in our time watching the quarterbacks throw, and he certainly looked the part of someone who should be a national-level prospect in his class. The other two already have Power 4 offers as well.

The Gamecocks have already offered Seaborn.

— A four-star surprise hit campus for day one of camp and left with a South Carolina offer.

Mack Sutter is from Illinois and stopped over on the way to vacation with family in Hilton Head.

The On3 Industry Ranking has him as a top 110 prospect nationally in the 2026 class, so he’s a very good prospect. The testing numbers backed that up, too.

Sutter measured in at over 6-foot-5 and turned in a shuttle time of 4.37 seconds with an impressive broad jump, too.

Another tight end looked impressive on the hoof as well. Jireh Prep’s Kyle Mullinex measured in at 6-foot-6 and looked the part going through drills.
