Caitlin Clark calls for Fever to get ‘more organized’ ahead of 4th quarter vs. Liberty

Caitlin Clark calls for Fever to get ‘more organized’ ahead of 4th quarter vs. Liberty

In Saturday’s showdown between the Fever and Liberty, it was all Indiana out of the gate. But New York turned the tables in the second half to take a 62-55 lead into the fourth quarter.

Caitlin Clark was quiet for most of the third quarter, but pointed out what went wrong as the Liberty made a run. She said the Fever have to play their game while also playing with some urgency – a tough balancing act against the WNBA’s No. 1 seed.

“I think we’re at our best when we’re pushing in transition,” Clark told CBS’ Tiffany Blackmon ahead of the fourth quarter. “I think we can get a little bit more organized, though. It was a little chaotic for us there. Finding a balance between pushing and running our offense.”

Although she was quiet from the floor in the third quarter, Clark still made an impact. In fact, she made even more history. She pulled down her 10th rebound in the fourth quarter to become the first rookie to record a triple-double in WNBA history.

Caitlin Clark preparing for first WNBA All-Star Game

Clark has been drawing incredible crowds everywhere she has gone, sending viewership through the roof for the Fever and even the rest of the league. Along with Angel Reese, who played at LSU and now suits up for the Chicago Sky, Clark has been part of a youth revival in the league. In fact, this season marks the first since 2014 that there are two rookies selected to play in the All-Star Game.

Clark entered Saturday’s game averaging 16.0 points, 7.1 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game through the first 21 contests of the season. But Clark’s teammates have also been pulling their weight this season.

Kelsey Mitchell has been an elite scorer for the Fever, averaging 16.6 points per game while also chipping in 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest. Aliyah Boston, meanwhile, is averaging 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game and is the heart and soul of the team in the frontcourt.

All three are well deserving of their All-Star nods, and the team honored them prior to tip-off against the Liberty. They will all get ready to head to Phoenix for the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, which will take place on Saturday, July 20.
