Big-time DB recaps South Carolina OV

One of the country’s very best defensive back prospects took his official visit to South Carolina this weekend.

Right after the trip to Columbia wrapped, Lagonza Hayward gave a strong review to his time in Gamecock Country.

“It was real good. I had a good time being around the guys and just being around Coach Gray and Coach Beame, then like going into depth about what I could do if I came here,” Hayward said.

The Toombs County four-star laid out what the message was from Gray, Beamer, and others.

“That if I do come in, they want me to come in and impact early,” Hayward said. “Because I’ve got the size and I can play. And they feel like I can compete with the best of them and I can come in and make an impact.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder spent the most time this weekend with another versatile young athlete out of Georgia in Vicari Swain.

“I was really around him and Jalon Kilgore most of the time because they’re close,” h said. “We were around each other the whole time I was with (Swain).”

Like Kilgore, who has the size and versatility to play multiple spots in the South Carolina scheme, USC’s staff believes Hayward can do the same.

“They said they can move me around really a lot. They said they’re going to put me in a position where I can expose my natural abilities. So like sometimes if I did, me and Kilgore would switch in and out because we’ve both got the same body style,” Hayward explained.

Up next for Hayward – ranked as the number 112 overall prospect in the country by the On3 IndustrY Ranking – are officials to Florida and Tennessee.

When could he make a decision?

“Talking to Beamer today, I don’t know, said Hayward. “It was going to be August 7th, but I might do it a little earlier. But at the latest it will be August 7th.”
