3-star CB Cameron Strong leaves NC State official visit with commitment date set

Cameron Strong has been one of the top cornerbacks on NC State football’s recruiting board since he picked up an offer last fall. His bond with the Wolfpack continued to grow when he traveled to Raleigh for a June 7-9 official visit. 

The Anderson (S.C.) T L Hanna High cornerback’s recruitment is down to three schools— NC State, Georgia Tech and West Virginia. His trip to Raleigh sat in the middle of a May 31 weekend with the Mountaineers and a June 14 visit with the Yellow Jackets. 

Through two of his three officials, Strong said he has a difficult decision ahead of him. He locked in a commitment date for June 21. NC State remains in the mix coming out of this trip. 

“There’s just a lot of conversations that have to be had between me and my family with this decision,” Strong said. “I think that’s what I have to do going forward until that date comes up.”

Strong visited NC State with the hope of building a bond with the current players. He already knows the facilities and the Wolfpack staff well, but this weekend on campus gave him the chance to spend plenty of time with his potential future teammates. 

Sophomore cornerback Brandon Cisse and redshirt freshman Zack Myers hosted the priority defensive back. They answered his questions and showed him around the city of Raleigh. 

“I think I connected pretty well,” Strong said. “They were all very welcoming and told me a lot of things about the program and just gave me a lot of information.”

The cornerback said his hosts were “cool” and “down to earth.” He has known Cisse for a while now because they are both from South Carolina. NC State’s sophomore cornerback made it clear that he wants Strong in Raleigh, which the class of 2025 prospect appreciated.

“It basically shows they’ve got love for me,” Strong said. 

He talked to Dave Doeren a lot over the weekend, and the head coach delivered a similar pitch. The cornerback is a top priority for the Pack, and he felt that this weekend. Strong and cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell are also very close, and he enjoyed the time they spent together as well. 

This was his fourth trip to NC State since the start of the 2023 football season. He took a closer look at downtown Raleigh during this visit. Strong said his family enjoyed the weekend on campus as well.

“They liked it,” Strong said. “They liked what the coaches were saying, they liked the players, they got to connect with some of the staff. Overall, it was a pretty good trip for them, from there perspective.”

The Wolfpack’s defensive scheme is similar to his high school system, and he could see his skill set translating to NC State. 

“I’m very familiar with their defensive scheme, so it seems like a great fit for me,” Strong said. 

Strong will travel to Georgia Tech for his final official visit next week. The 6-1, 170-pound cornerback will pick the school that feels the “most comfortable” for him and his family. 

So, did the official visit help NC State’s standing in his recruitment?

“For sure,” Strong said. “But it will be a tough decision between all three of the schools.”
