BOL Basketball Show: Is it time to hit the panic button for Alabama?

BOL Basketball Show: Is it time to hit the panic button for Alabama?

No. 7 Alabama lost back-to-back games to the No. 5 team in the nation this past week.

After leading by four points with 30 seconds left to play in Knoxville, the Crimson Tide lost to then-No. 5 Tennessee, 79-76, on a Jahmai Mashack buzzer-beater. Nate Oats shouldered the blame for Alabama’s late-game collapse, but the Tide also struggled on easy buckets against the Vols – shooting 12-of-29 on layups and 17-of-26 at the free-throw line.

Alabama then hosted No. 5 Florida for its final home game of the 2024-25 season and lost to the Gators, 99-94. UF out-rebounded the Tide, 50-35 – its largest rebounding deficit of the year – and scored 41 total points on second chances (19) and off of fastbreaks (22).

We all knew it was going to be a brutal final stretch for Alabama, who will look to bounce back on the road at No. 1 Auburn on Saturday, March 8 (1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN). The Crimson Tide has already clinched a double-bye in the SEC Tournament, but a win at Neville Arena in the second IBOB of the year could improve UA’s NCAA Tournament seeding.

Before Alabama travels to Auburn, BamaOnLine staff members Charlie Potter, Tim Watts and Blake Byler provide their thoughts on the last two wins and Saturday’s trip to the Plains.

The Alabama-related topics discussed by the guys include:

– Thoughts on the Tennessee loss

– Toughest basketball loss since…

– Thoughts on the Florida loss

– Where is the Panic Meter for UA?

– Clinched double-bye in Nashville

– Looking ahead to IBOB, Part II
