James Franklin FaceTimes viral Penn State fan that ran out of USC tunnel

Jordan Mott paid $1,800 to run out with the USC Trojans football team during their 33-30 overtime loss to Penn State during Week 7. The only thing was, he was deecked out in Nittany Lions gear.

Tailing the rest of the USC fans who paid to run out with the team, Mott called out, “Let’s go boys!” to rally his Nittany Lions into battle against the Trojans. Mott went viral for his dedication, and received a FaceTime call from head coach James Franklin in the days after the win.

“Jordan, you are the man,” Franklin said to open the phone call. “That was hilarious! It’s funny because I saw you. You know, I’m kind of busy, so I’m not really kind of thinking about, like, why is there a Penn State fan down here? I think you said something like, ‘Let’s go, boys!’

“It almost seemed like you like you were kind of like leading us out on the field.”

Mott recorded the entire video and posted it to his Instagram. This wasn’t a fan running out on the field incident, either. It’s part of a program USC runs that allows fans to run out of the tunnel with the Trojans, ranging from $1,450 to $1,800. It’s costly, but certainly earned Mott the respect from Penn State fans everywhere.

“It was absolutely wild,” the 2013 Penn State graduate told Franklin. “Never expected it to go as viral as it did in the last day or so.”

Franklin wrapped up the conversation by giving Mott the same appreciation that Penn State fans have been giving him since he posted the video on social media earlier in the week.

“I love that. I love it. You got it done,” Franklin said. “I just wanted to take a minute and call you and your creativity and your thoughtfulness and obviously your passion for Penn State’s really cool. So I just wanted to take a minute and give you a call, and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support.”

Penn State is idle in Week 8, but will stay on the road for Week 9. Taking on Wisconsin inside Camp Randall Stadium, kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EY live on NBC and Peacock.
