Report: Hugh Freeze contract details at Auburn released, including $3 million in incentives
The details on Hugh Freeze’s contract with Auburn are public. The 53-year-old Tigers head coach has a chance to make a small fortune.
Freeze is set to earn $6.5 million a year. However, the coach’s incentives are the kicker. Freeze can make an additional $2 million if he takes Auburn to the NCAA National Championship. To pile on, Freeze will earn $150,000 if the Tigers win five SEC contests. Freeze will rake in an additional $150,000 for every ensuing victory.
These potential bonuses are the tip of the iceberg. In total, Freeze could earn $3,150,000 if he met all potential incentives. For reference, previous Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin would have only earned $800,000 if he led Auburn to the national championship. The rest of his incentives were similarly lower in value.
Although Freeze signed with the Tigers in November 2022, his contract details just became public after Auburn put in an open records request. High expectations come with such high figures. Previously at Liberty from 2019-22, Freeze led the Flames to four bowl games and a 34-15 record.
