Georgia remains well-positioned for pair of 5-stars eyeing fall decisions
To the surprise of nobody, Georgia is once again recruiting one of the top classes in the nation.
The Bulldogs currently have the No. 5 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, headlined by three five-stars. After inking the top class in the nation last cycle, many aren’t looking at UGA to repeat at the top again once December rolls around.
Two big reasons could prove otherwise, however. Savannah (Ga.) Christian Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Elijah Griffin and Manchester (Ga.) Five-Star Plus+ DL Justus Terry both remain on the board and both are trending to the Dawgs in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
The No. 5 and 7 overall prospects in the 2025 cycle, Griffin and Terry are both taking their recruitments into the fall, but there’s no question about who the frontrunner is for either, according to On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.
“Kirby Smart loves his big people at the point of attack on both sides of the ball and he loves his defensive backs. Georgia’s track record of top targets on the O-line, the D-line and the secondary is as good as it gets since the Kirby Smart era has started in Athens, so I think they’ll land Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry. Those are guys that will continue the tradition of dominant play at the point of attack for the Bulldogs,” Wiltfong told On3’s Josh Newberg.
The latest on Griffin and Terry’s recruitments
Now down to UGA, Miami and USC, Griffin told On3’s Chad Simmons late last month that he could make his decision sometime around his birthday in October. Originally, he was eyeing a December decision.
Fortunately for Georgia, it has been considered the team to beat for Griffin for some time and an earlier commitment doesn’t bode as well for the Hurricanes or Trojans. Terry’s recruitment has been much more windy, but could lead to the same outcome.
Terry was originally committed to the Dawgs, but announced a surprise flip to USC in March while on his first visit in Los Angeles. That decision ultimately didn’t stick, as he backed off his pledge to the Trojans in June. Immediately after, UGA picked up the momentum once again.
The likes of Alabama and Florida State have gotten involved, but Terry has returned to Athens this summer and the On3 RPM heavily favors the in-state program.
“They were the team to beat the day (Terry) committed to USC on his visit in the spring,” Wiltfong said of Georgia. “USC came in and battled and they’re trying to restore glory and they’re recruiting the right guys, but Elijah Griffin, Justus Terry, players like that are the reason why Georgia, year in and year out, is competing for national championships.”
Four other programs currently hold commitments from three or more five-star prospects. Georgia fully expects to sign five, and the additions of Griffin and Terry could help propel Smart and Co. back to that top spot in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings when the time comes for pen to meet paper.
