Winners and Losers: Chris Klieman loves his Kansas State cornerbacks
KSO covers the biggest winners and losers in the world of Kansas State and college athletics.
Winners
1.) Leingang: According to Kansas State offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Conor Riley, junior Andrew Leingang is having the best training camp of his career. We’ll see if it is enough to land him a starting spot.
2.) Cornerbacks: Nobody was raved about more by K-State head coach Chris Klieman than cornerbacks Keenan Garber and Jacob Parrish. He loves that duo and lit up about them because of how they have continued to get faster and have both hit 200 pounds on the scale. To be clear, that pair was praised in huge fashion by both Riley and quarterback Avery Johnson as well.
3.) Adrian: After a sensational opening season in the UFL that garnered him MVP honors. former Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez has signed a contract with the New York Jets. We’ll see if he can stick around on the roster throughout the preseason.
4.) Track: Hey, K-State has an Olympic Gold Medalist at the 2024 games in Paris. Unfortunately, it came at the expense of the United States. Eugene Omalla helped Netherlands to the mixed relay 4×400 gold.
5.) Snyder: Congratulations is in store for former Kansas State football assistant Sean Snyder after he landed a special teams analyst job with Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State.
Losers
1.) December: It is possible that Kansas State only has one home basketball game in the month of December. That’s not something we often see. In fact, the Wildcats play only four games total in December before starting league play on December 31.
2.) Big Ten: I just need to get used to it since they stretch from the east coast to the west coast, but the Big Ten having future conference basketball tournaments in Las Vegas comes across as very silly to me.
3.) Utah: Speaking of what realignment has caused, Utah is a new member of the Big 12 as of August 1. But out of the four newcomers, they were the only ones not to show much excitement about the new move being official or have anything prepared. We certainly saw it from all of Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado.
4.) Linebackers: Injury bug hasn’t left the K-State position group. We saw it last year with Austin Romaine, Asa Newsom, Daniel Green, Terry Kirksey and Jake Clifton. It’s here again, as Newsom continues to gain confidence in his knee but Alec Marenco has already been banged up at least a little bit.
5.) Offensive line injuries: Fortunately, not at Kansas State. But both Notre Dame (Charles Jagusah) and Nebraska (Teddy Prochazka) have lost a starting offensive lineman for the season due to injury.
