Nebraska OH Harper Murray has gone “above and beyond” after legal situation
CHICAGO – Nebraska outside hitter Harper Murray will be available for the Husker’s first game of the 2024 season after two separate legal run-ins.
Husker Head Coach John Cook said that Murray will be available against Kentucky on Aug. 28 at the AVCA First Serve Showcase.
“Harper has done what she needs to do,” Cook said at Big Ten Media Day. “She’s back. She’s gone above and beyond what she needs to do, and she’s done everything that’s been asked of her.”

Murray was cited for a DUI, possessing a fake ID and shoplifting during the spring. She was sentenced to nine months of probation.
Cook said that he chose what was best for his team. But there were people outside of his immediate team, for example, AD Troy Dannen, who made decisions as well.
Murray was suspected for the Huskers’ Spring Exhibition match against Denver in Kearney, Nebraska. She was not on the sideline during the match.
The 6-foot-2 outside hitter had an outstanding freshman season. Murray was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, a First Team All-Big Selection and an AVCA Third Team All-American. She was also selected by the league’s coaches on the Big Ten All-Conference Preseason team.
She averaged 3.23 kills per set and hit .237 as a freshman in 2023 while playing in 121 sets and all 35 matches.
