Noah Lyles celebrates 100M gold medal win with epic social media post
USA track and field star Noah Lyles is on top of the world right now after winning Olympic gold in the 100-meter dash on Sunday. He narrowly defeated Kishane Thompson of Jamaica with a time of 9.784 seconds in an incredible photo finish.
Not long after, Lyles took to social media to celebrate his win via X. He tweeted a few photos of himself after the race along with the caption “I Told You America I Got This!” It was the same words he said directly into the camera after learning he had won.
Lyles won by a mere 0.005 seconds, the closest 100-meter dash finish at the Olympics since at least 1980. He also become the first American to win the event since 2004. It is the sprinter’s second overall Olympic medal after he won bronze in the 200-meter dash at the Tokyo Olympics, and his first gold.
Lyles appeared to be trailing Thompson for much of the contest before he leaped ahead in the final 10 meters. He will also have an opportunity to take home another gold medal in the 200-meter finals on Wednesday night.
With that in mind, he won’t have long to celebrate this victory before having to prepare for the next race.
Noah Lyles called Paris Olympics win against Jamaican rival Oblique Seville in June
About two months before his historic photo finish to win the gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, American Noah Lyles essentially called his shot.
Lyles was coming off the best race of his career, a 9.85-second 100-meter dash at the Racers Grand Prix on June 2. But that wasn’t good enough for first place.
Instead, first place went to Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, who clocked a 9.82.
Even knowing the Olympics were coming up, Lyles didn’t seem stressed at all. In fact, he seemed motivated and energized. And he made a promise of sorts.
“I say every year, when I get beat y’all need to be scared as s***, because next time you see me you gone be f***** worried,” Noah Lyles told the Jamaica Observer.
Of course, as things played out, Noah Lyles would get his revenge on Seville. Seville actually finished in last in the 100-meter dash final in Paris, clocking a 9.91 — still an absurdly fast time, of course.
Instead, it was a different Jamaican that Lyles edged out for the win by five-thousandths of a second: Kishane Thompson. Lyles clocked a 9.784 for the win, his fastest time yet. Just as promised.
