Five-star WR Kaliq Lockett previews this week’s college decision
Sachse (Texas) High On3 Industry five-star receiver Kaliq Lockett is ready to announce his college decision on Wednesday during a ceremony at his school.
The elite pass catcher saw his decision come down to Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas and Texas A&M.
“I’m really a little bit nervous,” Lockett laughed on Sunday night. “I never really spoke in front of a lot of people. I don’t know how many people are going to be at the actual event. It’s going to be at Sachse and I know a lot of people are going to be watching.”
Indeed they will be.
Defensive backs were nervous checking the 6-foot-1 1/2, 175-pound Lockett last fall. As a junior he turned 59 receptions into 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns, good for 22 yards per catch.
The On3 Industry ranks Lockett as the country’s No. 3 receiver and No. 17 prospect overall.
Lockett talked about what he’s looking for in a school
Lockett said he’s fairly certain what he’s going to do on Wednesday.
“Oh man really just an extension of my family,” Lockett said. “I’m really big on family. It’s going to be hard to leave them. I wanted the school to look after me and take care of me and I want the coaches to basically be my parents but not my parents if you get what I’m saying.
“My plan is to go three years and done. The school that I chose is the best way to be one of the best receivers in the country and to be a first round receiver.”
Lockett broke down each finalist
Regarding Alabama: “I definitely like Coach DeBoer’s air-raid offense that he brought from Washington and I like what he’s doing with Alabama right now. I like how Alabama’s recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the best in the country. Then also I like Coach Shephard’s way of coaching the guys and his way of coaching when it comes to drills and how he translates that into games.”
Regarding Florida State: “I like Coach Norvell’s energy. He always has very high energy and he never changes how he feels about anything. I like how everyone at Florida State is in-tune with everyone and they’re all bought into what they’re trying to do which is win a National Championship.”
Regarding LSU: My favorite thing about LSU is definitely the food. The food is something crazy. And also liked how many receivers they put in the league from the rich history behind the position at LSU. I like Coach Kelly, I like Coach Hankton’s coaching style, Coach Sloan’s coaching style and all that.”
Regarding Texas: ”I like Coach Sark’s offensive mastermind style of offense. I like Coach Jackson’s perspective as an NFL receiver coach coming from the NFL to college and him translating his NFL perspective to college. I like how Texas is a little bit more close than everybody else. And also my past dealings with Texas.”
Regarding Texas A&M: “New staff and I believe in Coach Elko. He has the opportunity to turn A&M into a top program in the country. I like the recruiting class also. I like Coach Wiggins and the guys he’s put in the league like Jerry Jeudy and Devonta Smith and those guys.”
