Andy Enfield has SMU trending for big start to 2025 recruiting

SMU Basketball coach Andy Enfield built his reputation as a recruiter and just months on the job, has the Mustangs trending for some elite talent.

*** On3 national recruiting analyst Joe Tipton locked in an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick on Monday for SMU to land a top target. SMU will Jermaine O’Neal, Jr. of Dynamic Prep in Dallas for an official visit Sept. 21. The son of former NBA star Jermaine O’Neal received a pick to land with the Mustangs from Tipton. The four-star point guard ranks as the No. 96 overall prospect and No. 24 point guard nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He holds offers from the likes of Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, SMU, and others. He’s already visited SMU once this summer and he could have teammates join him on the Hilltop.

*** Jaden Toombs, a four-star center in the 2025 class, is down to five schools: Alabama, LSU, Miami, SMU, and Texas Tech. He cut his list down Monday night, he told Tipton. Toombs is teammates with O’Neal and is a part of what’s shaping up to be a big recruiting weekend when SMU Football faces TCU. He’s already taken a Texas Tech official visit and will soon take official visits to Alabama on Aug. 31, Miami on Sept. 5 and lastly (at least as of now) SMU on Sept. 21. According to the On3 Industry ranking, he’s the No. 43 overall prospect and No. 4 center in America.

*** Also along that weekend is one of the nation’s top guards. Jerry Easter told On3 at Peach Jam he has scheduled official visits to Miami and SMU for the fall. The 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Link Academy (MO) says he plans to also to set officials to Ohio State, Michigan State, and USC. He’s the No. 32 overall prospect and second-ranked combo guard in the country.

*** SMU is also involved with four-star big man Tee Bartlett, who is expected to take an official visit this fall. The 6-10, 270-pounder is from Los Angeles originally, right in Enfield’s old backyard. Texas, Ohio State, Miami, USC, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Providence and others are also in the mix. He’s a Top 50 overall prospect and Top 5 center for On3. On3 named him a top performer at NBPA Top 100 camp.

“(Bartlett) is a big and physical presence. He has excellent hands and plays with more burst than you would expect. Standing 6-foot-10, Bartlett has good feet on the block and he can face up to create an advantage off of two or three dribbles.”
