Liam McNeeley, the Nation’s No. 7-Ranked Prospect, Talks Kentucky

Liam McNeeley, the Nation’s No. 7-Ranked Prospect, Talks Kentucky

Liam McNeeley, the No. 7-ranked player in the On3 Industry Ranking, is hearing from Kentucky on a regular basis as he inches towards his senior year.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound small forward from Montverde (FL) Academy and the Florida Rebels AAU Program told KSR+ that he is talking to Kentucky assistant coach Chin Coleman “a couple times a week.”

“Coach Cal [John Calipari] called me,” he said. “It’s going alright. Nothing too crazy.”

Although McNeeley doesn’t have an offer from UK, he is impressed with the program’s history.

“They put a lot of guys in the league and that’s what I’m trying to do,” he said.

As for what he’s looking for in a school, McNeeley said he wants a coach that cares about him.

“Someone that’s going to care about me on and off the court and that’s going to help me achieve my dream of playing in the NBA and staying in the NBA,” he said.

Indiana Making a Push

Liam McNeeley is hearing from a number of schools, including Indiana, Texas, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

Indiana was the first school McNeeley took an official visit to back in September and the Hoosiers continue to remain in a good position.

“It’s still the same it’s been,” McNeeley said. “It’s a great relationship. Coach [Mike] Woodson keeps adding NBA guys on his staff. That’s really interesting. They want me to come back for another official visit, so I’m trying to figure out the dates right now for that.”

Namely, Indiana has brought in former Indiana Pacers player development assistant Calbert Cheaney as the program’s new director of player development.

“That’s big,” McNeeley said. “That’s just more NBA knowledge on the team. I like that.”

McNeeley said he’s currently working with the staff to find a date for another official visit to Bloomington.

Indiana is a historic school, but it was at the peak of its talent back in the day,” he said. “They’re just now starting to pick up as being one of the best schools in the country because of Coach Woodson, the coaching staff, and guys like Jalen Hood-Schifino. They’re on the rise for sure.”

Liam McNeeley’s Game

Five-Star forward Liam McNeeley of Montverde (Fl.) Academy is the nation’s No. 7 overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks McNeeley as the No. 10 player overall and the No. 4 small forward and the No. 4 overall best player in Florida.

“I try to be as versatile as I can and really smart,” he said. “I try to put myself in positions where I can succeed and help my teammates succeed.”

McNeeley averaged 2.3 made three-pointers per game in the NIBC during the 2022-23 season, which was second in the league. He prides himself on his ability to shoot beyond the arc.

“I like to shoot threes, I think that’s obvious,” McNeeley said. “I try not to be a one-dimensional player, so I try to do more with my game. When I get going from behind-the-arc, I think it’s going to go in every time.”

Heading into his senior year, McNeeley is looking to improve his on-ball defense against smaller guards.

“Like I said, I’m trying to be as versatile as I can and play as many positions as I can,” he said.  “You can only play the positions you can guard. I’m trying to work and that and get quicker feet.”
