It was a busy week in Manhattan on both the Kansas State football and basketball recruiting fronts. Chris Klieman and Jerome Tang had some of their favorite targets on campus in hopes of landing some big fish.

It was a massive weekend for the football program and will be gain next weekend.

The many K-State visitors included safety Leo Almanza, offensive linemen Lucas Allgeyer and Andrew Williams, defensive linemen Jackson Blackwell and Dalton Knapp, wideout Adonis Moise and cornerback Cameron Jamerson.

Kansas State commits Dillon Duff, Martel Jackson, Will Kemna and Weston Polk were also in town. Will they have others join them after the festive weekend? Perhaps. My guess for next potential K-State commits would be Moise and Jamerson.

Last piece

Meanwhile, Klieman and the Wildcats also added the likely final scholarship piece for the 2024 season when they took on UT-Chattanooga offensive line transfer Colin Truett. The other program in contention was South Carolina.

He will provide Kansas State with increased depth on the interior of the offensive line. Will he start? I’m not sure I’d go that far but I’m sure he’ll have a chance to compete for a spot in fall camp after being a four-year starter at the FCS level.

Hawkins

Perhaps the most followed K-State storyline of the weekend surrounds the courting of Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins. He’s obviously one of the best players to enter the portal and visited Manhattan Saturday through Monday.

Other programs that have been in the mix at one time or another are North Carolina, Louisville, Arkansas, SMU, LSU and St. John’s. The Wildcats have carried heavy momentum, even securing the first trip after the Louisville visit was canceled.

Though he was a lean to the Razorbacks at one point and received very heavy interest from the Tar Heels, it feels like the three schools still connected to Hawkins are Kansas State, SMU and LSU. But it would not be false to call the Wildcats the leader in the clubhouse.

Can they close it down before other visits are made? That’s the question.
