Jamar Browder clicks with NC State and commits to the Pack
Jamar Browder committed to NC State white eating dinner on floor 28 of Raleigh’s Wells Fargo Building. With an expansive view of the city outside the window and lobster on the menu, the receiver decided he had found his collegiate home.
He announced his Wolfpack commitment Sunday night on social media but informed the staff of his decision during dinner the previous night. This was the Lake Worth (Fla.) Santaluces Community High star’s first time on campus, but that’s all he needed.
Browder saw no red flags around the Pack going into the trip, and his weekend around the program validated that. He completely shut down his recruitment, and he plans on joining the program in January.
“The place just felt right,” Browder said. “They have the right platform and everything. They’re in the Power Five, so they told me they’llI give me the platform, and all I’ve got to do is perform. And if I do that, I should be okay.”
Wide receivers coach Joker Phillips and offensive quality control coach Gavin Locklear were the main Wolfpack assistants recruiting Browder. They were talking about a possible commitment during the weekend.
He dropped hints throughout the visit and then made the announcement at dinner. NC State’s coaching staff was very excited to hear the news.
“They started dancing,” Browder said. “They actually threw a party later that night, to my knowledge.”
Browder met with head coach Dave Doeren during his official visit and said he was one of the cooler head coaches in the country.
At 6-5, 200 pounds, the rising senior calls himself a wide receiver at heart. He plans on playing that position in college and the NFL. NC State sees him playing on the outside, using his height to create significant mismatches with opposing corners.
The receiver has been playing football since he was five years old. He’s not worried about achieving success at the next level. Browder knows, if he continues to work like he always has, he will get where he needs to be. Plus, he has full faith in Phillips to develop him.
“His coaching career says it for itself,” Browder said. “He’s been around kids, he’s put people in the NFL at that position as well, so it’s not like he’s new to it or anything.”
Freshman quarterback CJ Bailey hosted the receiver, and they quickly clicked. Browder’s future signal-caller is also from Florida and the same age as the Wolfpack commit. They already have a connection now, and the rising senior hopes that chemistry carries over to when he arrives on campus next year.
“We really just meshed together, and we got along real cool,” Browders said.
Browder visited alongside his family and a high school coach. They all liked NC State, which was part of the reason why he made the commitment.
The overall positive vibe around the program stood out to the receiver commit, leading to him joining the class shortly after his visit.
“Everybody is real easy-going, cool, calm and collected,” Browder said. “I haven’t met nobody mean in North Carolina, and the coaches are real down the earth, easy to talk to, great personality, and the players are really easy to get along with too.”
