Penn State football ready to welcome much-anticipated addition

Penn State football has already added the majority of its Class of 2024 as the program shifts into the heart of its summer workouts. But, in the coming days, the Nittany Lions are expecting to add a significant remaining piece of its personnel puzzle.

Blue White Illustrated’s Sean Fitz has learned that Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep wide receiver Tyseer Denmark is set to arrive to Penn State following his high school graduation on Friday. Denmark confirmed with BWI’s Ryan Snyder that he is expecting to arrive to the Nittany Lions’ program this weekend.

The news comes on the heels of Denmark’s MVP performance for Pennsylvania in the Big 33 Classic in Hershey on May 27.

In the game, Denmark excelled in all phases of the offense and special teams, carrying the ball, catching passes, and even throwing the ball. He caught the game’s first touchdown over future Maryland Terrapins cornerback Kevyn Humes and added to it with another two scores. His final stat tally finished with four catches for 95 yards.

Last season, transfer rules prevented Denmark from participating in the playoffs, leaving him with 28 catches for 330 yards and four touchdowns on the season. And, he did so alongside teammate Kenny Woseley, who is also set to enroll soon.

“We’ve been talking a lot,” Denmark said before the game. “We’ve been going over formations and doing different Zoom meetings to touch on the different things I need to be ready. I’m just getting ready for all of that stuff and they’ve also been helping me prepare my mind for what’s next.”

What’s next?

That preparation could be extremely important for Penn State ahead of the 2024 season. Joining a room of receivers beleaguered by criticism from the last campaign, Denmark’s arrival marks the beginning of an opportunity in which the program continues to search out contributions from the position.

Meeting with Blue White Illustrated this week, head coach James Franklin issued both confidence and a challenge to the receivers as they work through the summer.

“I think talent-wise, I’ve never questioned the talent that we have in that room. But, there needs to be a significant step this year, that not only are they a big time unit, but one of the better units in our conference,” said Franklin. “That’s what our whole offseason is about, that’s what training camp is going to be about. That’s early in the season, what that’s going to be about.

“Because, I think with success, that this unit can take off. Because talent’s not our issue. Measurables; speed, strength, those types of things, our room probably matches up with the best receiver rooms in the country. But, we got to produce and we got to do it.”

Denmark was the No. 555-ranked player in the On3 Industry Rankings as a three-star prospect. He’s the 11th-ranked player in Pennsylvania for the Class of 2024.
