Gators are picking it back up with 4-star quarterback Antwann Hil
The Gators are still on the hunt for a 2025 quarterback and received an official visit this weekend from one of their long-time targets in Antwann Hill.
Representing Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County, Hill was offered by Florida nearly two years ago and has since been to campus a handful of times. This weekend, however, was plenty different from the other visits and understandably so.
“It was fun just hanging out with the coaches: (Offensive analyst) coach (Ryan) O’Hara, coach (Billy) Napier, and especially DJ Lagway. Just hanging around him, asking him questions and stuff like that, it was fun,” Hill told Gators Online.
“His message to me was keep weighing out all my options, take my time throughout these next couple months (before) I got to make my decision. Of course he wants me to come to Florida and learn by him. And like he said in the car last night, he knows they’re recruiting me to take his spot, so I’m coming to take his spot and he knows that. But at the end of the day, it’s all brotherly love. I love DJ and he loves me.”
Plenty is thrown at a prospect during an official visit weekend. What was the top highlight for Hill?
“Most definitely being with him, just getting knowledge and wisdom from him. Hanging out with him and the team,” Hill replied. “After this visit, they’re very high. I mean, they really just showed what Florida has to offer and just my opportunity at Florida.”
Two-team race for Antwann Hill
Right now, the 4-star prospect’s recruitment is featuring a battle between Florida and Memphis.
Like the Gators, Memphis is part of the official visit itinerary for June, as the Tigers play host next weekend. The ability to play there as a freshman and how hard he is being recruited by them are major appeals.
From there, Hill will likely commit on his birthday of July 13. What will his decision come down to?
“Most definitely quarterback development and just does it feel like I’m at home. But really just development,” the signal caller respinded.
How did the Florida Gators do in terms of showing that development?
“They did good. Asking DJ questions and just being around him the whole time, I just gained so much knowledge from him about this Florida program. And just how the transition was from high school over to Florida, so that was really good for me to ask those questions with him and other teammates as well,” said Hill.
“DJ really stands out because he plays my position and he’s going through the same stuff I’m going through right now. So just asking him those questions was big.”
Feeling like old times again
For much of the recruiting process, Hill has felt like a top priority for the Gators. That comes after landing 30-plus offers and emerging as a national recruit.
That hadn’t been the case in recent weeks though. Communication was all right at best, with UF at one time having not communicated with Antwann Hill for roughly two weeks.
Have they been recruiting him harder as of late though?
“‘Most definitely. Florida has been picking it up. And after this visit, I feel like they’re going to keep it up,” said Hill.
