Ole Miss WR Jordan Watkins’ goals for 2024 are simple, but extremely important to his production

Ole Miss WR Jordan Watkins’ goals for 2024 are simple, but extremely important to his production

The past two days, Ole Miss senior wide receiver Jordan Watkins has regaled us with his interpretation and opinion of surging sophomore wideout Ayden Williams and how he feels about the whole receiving room.

For a recap, the mental light is coming on for Williams and now his peers are seeing the athleticism that gained him a 4-star recruiting ranking and a lot of praise prior to his arriving at Ole Miss last summer from then wideout coach Derrick Nix.

Williams started flashing in spring ball and should just get better and better.

As for the whole group of receivers, Jordan called it “pick your poison” for defenses and said he felt Ole Miss has the best receiving room in America with the likes of Tre Harris, Juice Wells, Williams, Cayden Lee, Deion Smith and himself.

His “arguments” on both accounts were well-made and well-founded, but we had one more chore to take care of before letting Jordan out of his length interview with The Ole Miss Spirit.

What about Jordan Watkins? What are you doing this offseason? What are your expectations for your final collegiate year?

As a refresher course, Watkins is closing in on 100 receptions after two seasons with Ole Miss after moving to Oxford from Louisville. To be precise, he has 93 catches for 1,190 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Plus, Watkins is counted on as the sure-handed punt returner for Ole Miss.

His importance is well-documented, but what does he want to improve on?

“To be honest, I just want to stay healthy. I want to do a better job of taking care of my body and being available to play,” Watkins said sincerely. “It hurts when you can’t play and I’ve had my share of that due to some recurring issues with hamstring injuries.

“Hamstrings have been an issue with me since I was a freshman in college and they are still an issue.”

What can he do to help the situation?

“I’m making changes in my diet. I’m doing more cold tubs and more rehab. I’m stretching more and I’m eating right,” he explained. “It’s hard to accept at my age there are problems with my body, but I have matured and know what I have to do from this point forward and basically, it’s more of everything – a cleaner diet, more rehab and more stretching and strength exercises.”

Watkins closed our lengthy discussion with a final thought.

“I have some things to do with my body. Juice is coming off offseason surgery and Tre had a foot injury last year that cost him some playing time and being able to reach his full potential,” Watkins said. “We all have to do whatever is necessary to get our bodies in the best shape possible.

“Because I am certain of one thing – if we stay relatively healthy, the sky is the limit for this receiving room.”

Amen, brother. That’s a no-brainer.
