West Coast RB previews Alabama OV, talks interest
This upcoming weekend, Alabama is set to play host to a trio of prospects from one of the top high school programs in the country. For their first official visit weekend of the summer, Kalen DeBoer and Company will welcome Mater Dei High School’s Chuck McDonald, Jordon Davison, and Marcus Harris on campus.
Harris has visited twice this year and Davison stopped by in March, while this will mark McDonald’s first-ever trip to Tuscaloosa.
Ahead of his return trip, Davison — the No. 5 running back (per the On3 Industry Rankings) — is ready to get on campus and see the staff in person again.
“Just getting around the coaches and just feeling everybody out for the last time [before I commit],” Davison told BamaOnLine. “It’s just the relationships and knowing the history of football there.”
Davison has long had interest in the Crimson Tide. The On300 running back landed an offer from Alabama back in May 2022 before his sophomore season, and was at The Capstone the next month for a camp. Interestingly enough, DeBoer and his Washington staff offered Davison back in August 2022.
Bama currently sits in his top four, alongside Michigan, Ohio State, and Oregon.
“It’s very high since I’m taking an OV there,” Davison said of his interest level. “Just the relationships and development. [Their running back history] is something special for sure.”
Robert Gillespie has been with Alabama throughout the program’s two-year pursuit of the 5-foot-11, 220-pound prospect.
“It’s been great,” Davison said of his relationship with Gillespie. “He’s been nothing but loyal and genuine to me. [His message] is that I’m his guy and what am I waiting on. That’s my guy, man. Just his commitment and how he treats his players. Also, how he develops his players. All good things I like about Coach G.”
Offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan has also pitched in with Davison’s recruitment.
“Nothing but good conversations,” Davison said of Sheridan. “He’s a good guy. He’s very down to earth, and you can tell he cares about his players.”
Along with Gillespie and Sheridan, Davison is hearing from wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard. The main message from Alabama’s assistant coaches over the past few months has been that he’s wanted by the program.
DeBoer recently hopped on the phone with Davison to discuss his upcoming official visit and what they’re building at Bama.
“Just previewing the OV and seeing what they have to offer,” Davison said of his talk with DeBoer. “He’s a good coach. He’s been successful everywhere he’s been. And he’s a good guy, he’s very genuine. I like [his offense] a lot.”

Alabama’s staff took it another step with Davison recently during the spring evaluation period. Gillespie, Shephard, and Sheridan all paid him a visit at his school in Santa Ana (Calif.) earlier this month. The trio of coaches spoke with Davison for roughly an hour.
“It meant a lot,” Davison said. “It just made me feel like a priority.”
During his conversations with the staff, Davison has also been told how he’d be utilized in their offense. His ability to catch the ball well out of the backfield and how good he does in space have been key talking points.
Davison is in touch not only with the staff, but with Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver signee Ryan Williams as well.
“From the jump, he’s been wanting to play with me,” Davison said of Williams. “He’s saying that’s where the best players go. It could for sure be something great.”

Alabama has a strong Mater Dei presence on the football team in cornerbacks Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown. They also hold a commitment from 2025 linebacker Abduall Sanders.
Brown, who Davison played with for three years, is pitching the Tide to his former teammate.
“Just getting around familiar faces and making it more comfortable,” Davison said when asked about Bama having some Mater Dei alumni. “Zabien and I are real tight. He’s always been consistent and trying to get me there.”
One note about Bama’s class is that they already hold a commitment from running back Anthony Rogers, who committed to Nick Saban and his staff last June.
Does Rogers’ presence in the class affect Davison’s consideration of Alabama?
“No,” Davison replied. “I know Turbo, and we have a good relationship. He’s more of a speed back. I’m more of a balanced back, so we would complement each other very well.”
The opportunity to play early, development, stable relationships, and a stable coaching staff will all factor into Davison’s final decision.
A commitment timeline is still in the air for the No. 8 rising senior out of California, who also has officials scheduled to Michigan (June 7), Oregon (June 14), and Ohio State (June 21).
“My recruitment is wide open,” Davison stated.
