4-star RB Byron Louis locks in official visits and will ‘focus’ on a select group of schools

Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis is coming off a multi-day unofficial visit to Colorado. Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes are working to stay in this race and the No. 176 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking enjoyed his time in Boulder.

“It was amazing,” Louis told On3. “Colorado has real fans, even in the rain, they came out to support. They really believe in Coach Prime. What excites me the most about the program is Coach Prime and all the support that’s around him, the staff and how they are great recruiters.”

Colorado has stiff competition for one of the top running backs in the country. Four schools have emerged as strong contenders and Louis has locked in official visits with Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Wisconsin.

It starts with an official visit to Coral Gables on May 31. He heads north to Wisconsin and Ohio State on June 7 and June 14 before returning to the Sunshine State for an official visit to Tallahassee on June 21.

“I will focus on these schools most and these are the schools I will primarily talk to and focus on right now. All four are great schools that produce great running backs. If you want to be the best, you have to play with the best and get coached by the best.

“That factored a lot into my decision to focus on these. All four schools and coaches have a history with my position.”

Each school is in regular contact with Louis. He has relationships with coaches at each school. Some are a little more aggressive than others, but he feels a great connection to each school and they have all shown him what they can offer on and off the field.

“Going into the official visits, these schools are tight together at the top,” Louis added. “After these official visits, I will go home, talk with parents, pray on this and decide which is the best school for me.

“I will take some time after that and not make an emotional decision.”

Louis has visited Florida State around four times, Miami over 10 times, Ohio State around half a dozen times and Wisconsin once.

Florida State: “What stands out about at Florida State is how genuine the people are. They have great fans, great coaches and they make it known that I am wanted there. My old head coach, Pat Surtain is there now, and I talk with him, Coach Mike Norvell and YAC (David Johnson). I really appreciate how they recruit me.”

Miami: “At the end of the day, Miami is home. You can’t take anything away from that. Miami produces the best, they have a great the staff and I how the staff has a lot of connections to the school. Some of their coaches played there, some went to school there and some are from there. I like that.”

Ohio State: “It is not just Ohio State, but is it The Ohio State. That name carries a lot of weight. Ohio State has the best fan base, they breed great players and they compete for national championships. Ohio State produces running backs too. I am still getting to know Coach Carlos Locklyn, but I have only known him for a little while and I like him already.”

Wisconsin: “Have you seen their offensive line? They have size. If I go there it would be like I was running behind the Great Wall of China. Coach Devon Spalding is one of the smartest coaches I talk to too. It is always great chopping it up with him. They have a great staff, a big offensive line and Wisconsin gets the ball to their backs.”
