Former Tennessee LB Elijah Herring talks Colorado visit, looks ahead to Kansas State trip

Former Tennessee linebacker Elijah Herring, one of the top players currently in the NCAA transfer portal, visited Colorado last weekend and liked what he saw in Boulder in spending time with head coach Deion Sanders and his staff.

“Experiencing Colorado was a great time,” Herring told On3. “Coach Prime had a great staff around him. Bunch of family.”

The trip to Colorado was the first of the process for the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Herring who will visit Kansas State this weekend. The Buffaloes program is an environment he can see himself in.

“Everybody knew each other from years past,” Herring said of the staff. “Just shows how connected everybody was. How the chemistry was. The culture, a bunch of smiles, bunch of laughs and just how they got to work when it was time to grind.”

Herring now looks forward to getting to Kansas State this weekend.

“The consistent winning and just them being consistent year in and year out,” he said of what he likes about the Wildcats.

Herring added he does not think this trip to Kansas State will be his last as he continues to ponder his next move.

Herring started 11 of 12 games this past season at middle linebacker to lead Tennessee with 80 tackles (four for loss) and 0.5 sacks. He helped the Vols to rank third in the SEC and 23rd in the country this past season in scoring defense.
