West Coast OL feeling ‘dedication’ from Florida ahead of third trip to Gainesville
With two unofficial visits in the books and an official visit scheduled for June, John Mills has emerged as a priority offensive line target for the Gators.
In addition to that, Florida co-offensive line coach Rob Sale visited San Francisco (Cali.) St. Ignatius College Preparatory on Wednesday. Receiving attention from a reputable SEC program like the Gators definitely has the attention of Mills’ family.
According to the On3 rankings, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Mills is the No. 26 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class.
“Coach Sale came by yesterday to talk to my family and I at school,” Mills told Gators Online. “Them coming by shows I mean a lot to them and we like that a lot. We love the dedication at Florida overall. It’s a good academic school with good football. I believe they are going to be a great football program this upcoming season.”
Rob Sale is putting in overtime despite proximity disadvantage
To say Mills’ spring schedule is jam-packed could be an understatement.
Numerous colleges are stopping by St. Ignatius College Preparatory, and that is all while the offensive lineman is dealing with daily demands in the classroom. Then you have the training that comes along with being a household name in recruiting.
Thankfully for Mills though, his parents are playing a pivotal during a very important time.
“I was only with (coach Sale) for probably 20 minutes. I was in counselor meetings and he was talking to my mom and dad for about 30-40 minutes before,” said Mills. “They liked him a lot and appreciated that. He’s a father too, so they know where he is coming from the parent aspect too.”
With a few months under his belt, co-offensive line coach John Decoster is gaining rapport as well.
“I saw him on my second visit to Florida. I like him a lot,” Mills said of Decoster. “He’s funny and my parents like him a lot. He’s super funny, honest and real too, which is super cool and I like that about him a lot.”
Mills’ official visit in Gainesville will be key
It was back in January when Mills visited the Gators for the first time. From there, he scheduled a return trip for March 30 and relished his experience for a scrimmage.
In order for Florida to climb his list even more, what does Mills need to see on June 7-9?
“I’ve seen the football facilities and everything. I’m excited to see the real culture,” said Mills. “I saw it during spring ball, but I haven’t really seen it outside of ball yet, so I’m excited to see that.”
Four schools are on the official visit schedule
Additional schools on Mills’ official visit list are Nebraska, which hosts this weekend, California (May 23-25) and Texas (June 14-16). USC was on the schedule too, but Mills announced on Thursday he is no longer taking that trip.
“I wouldn’t say there is a massive leader right now,” Mills said. “My relationships with Texas and Washington are pretty good, and then Cal because they are so close.
“We are trying to figure it all out right now. After the OVs, we will see where (Florida) ends up, but I don’t have a clear leader right now. They are all pretty equal and we will see what happens after the OVs.”
It will be after those visits when Mills likely pulls himself off the market as well. A certain date is not under consideration, but the 3-star prospect anticipates a decision coming in June.
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Texas is trending with odds of 79.6 percent. The Gators boast the second-best odds but only at 5.5 percent.
