Miami 4-star RB target impressed with Hurricanes, encouraged by visit despite Georgia Tech loss

For Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis, a top-300 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, the final outcome of Miami’s 23-20 loss to Georgia Tech Saturday hasn’t mattered nearly as much as the effort the Hurricanes’ staff has made for him since the start of August.

Louis, the No. 208 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 18 running back, visited Miami for the second time this fall Saturday night, almost a month after attending the Hurricanes’ 48-33 win over then-No. 23 Texas A&M Sept. 9, although he acknowledged Miami’s game against Georgia Tech didn’t have the same result. But he doesn’t consider an unusual, fluky loss to a conference opponent something that will ultimately play a major role in his recruitment.

Miami hosted Louis for his first-ever college game-day visit years ago and brought him to his first college football night game Saturday, something Louis won’t forget. He weighed his overall game-day experience more than the final result, he said, which he viewed as very positive.

“It was just great,” Louis said. “Especially the atmosphere at nighttime, with it being a late game, everybody was out here until the last second. The fans never gave up and never lost hope, and that’s what the team needed to bring that life back into the stadium. Everybody coming out to support, it was just amazing to see.”

He also noted he’s not sure how many recruits are lucky enough to be able to attend a blackout night game in front of Miami’s largest crowd of the season thus far.

“I just feel it was an amazing experience,” Louis said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not a lot of people can say they went to a blackout game or a night game as a recruit, and I’m just blessed, honestly.”

Louis was clear the final result won’t affect his respect for the Hurricanes’ coaching staff.

“It doesn’t affect it at all,” Louis said. “Honestly, I feel the adversity and the loss, they’re just lessons learned at the end of the day. I feel as if, ‘Yeah, they lost, and at the end of the day, I feel like they could have won that game.’ One or two plays does make a difference, but at the end of the day they’re still Miami, and I still have hope the future is still bright.”

CaneSport’s Take

Miami’s recruiting effort for Louis has continued to pay off, and as long as the loss doesn’t mark the start of a complete collapse this season, it’s likely the Hurricanes will be able to maintain their position.
