IOL DeAndre’ Harper visits Nebraska and picks up PWO opportunity from the Huskers

Omaha (Neb.) North lineman DeAndre’ Harper is already committed to D2 powerhouse Northwest Missouri State. The 6-foot-6 and 282-pound Harper has a massive frame. As a junior, Harper allowed just one sack. His father played football at UNO as well. The opportunity from Nebraska is going to get some attention from Harper. Harper was in Lincoln on Saturday to see Nebraska play against Louisiana Tech.

“It was good, there was a good atmosphere,” Harper said. “I was there with my parents, and they loved it.”

Harper had a good relationship with the Nebraska staff before Matt Rhule came to Lincoln. Harper committed to NWMSU in August, but the attention from Rhule and the new staff is noticeable.

“Last year, Mickey and the other coaching staff showed me a lot of love. And I am still getting a lot of love from the Huskers even though I am committed now.”

Harper knows that some things are missing for Nebraska offensively. He saw the breakdowns on the offensive line and knows about the injuries to multiple running backs, and Nebraska needs some playmakers at wide receiver. Harper knows it’s going to take some time for Nebraska.

“I am looking towards the future for Nebraska. They have a good coaching staff. The process is going to be a little longer for coach Rhule. They will bring in some recruits, and they will be good in the future.”

DeAndre’ Harper says D1 opportunity for Nebraska will get consideration

Following the weekend visit to Nebraska, the Huskers offered Harper a preferred walk-on opportunity. Harper is happy with his current commitment but says that D1 opportunities deserve their attention.

“I would have to consider any D1 opportunity,” Harper said. “I really love the people at Northwest Missouri State. They took me in and showed me a lot of love. I would consider any D1, and I am thankful Nebraska is offering me.

“Besides Nebraska, I am getting attention from a few other D1 schools like Iowa State, UNI, and Southern Illinois. There are a lot of other schools still contacting me.”

The opportunity with Nebraska is special. Harper grew up in Nebraska. It’s hard for him to overlook the fans he sees daily.

“You see red everywhere around my hometown,” Harper said. “I have been watching the Huskers since I was a little kid. I am homegrown.”
