Miami Hurricanes CB Davonte Brown wants to see same approach as a home game in first road contest today at Temple
The Miami Hurricanes cornerback position was an area of concern heading into the season. But with Jaden Davis, Daryl Porter, Jr., Te’Cory Couch and Davonte Brown leading the way it’s been a solid enough start.
Miami ranks No. 66 in the nation in passing yards allowed and No. 43 in pass efficiency defense, but also is part of a unit that ranks No. 18 in the nation in total defense.
As for Brown?
He hasn’t had a huge impact to this point with four total tackles in 81 reps. Per Pro Football Focus he is grading out at 57.3 percent overall and 56.0 in coverage (allowing three of four targets to go for completions).
Brown could have a bigger role today at Temple with the status of Kam Kinchens uncertain – Jaden Harris and Jaden Davis have worked at safety with Kinchens out.
“As far as Kam being out, Jaden Harris has stepped up playing that position, is doing a good job,” Brown said. “I feel like we all push each other in that room. … We all have been picking each other up, trying to help each other.”
Brown also looked ahead to the game at Temple today. The Owls enter the game as a big underdog but have a potential playmaking quarterback in EJ Warner. Warner has thrown for 760 yards with four TDs and two INTs in the team’s 2-1 start, and last year he had 18 touchdowns and 12 picks.
“They have a lot of athletes, the quarterback is pretty good, likes to get the ball out fast to his playmakers,” Brown said. “Just (have to) lock in on tendencies, formations they like to run. They also have athletic tight ends – have to lock ion on them.”
A final thought from Brown?
He says with the team entering its first road game that “road trips are a little different, but as far as playing, nothing different. Go out there with the same approach. Don’t let (fans) affect you, handle business.”
