Wolverine TV: Five New Jersey recruits Michigan fans need to know

Wolverine TV: Five New Jersey recruits Michigan fans need to know

Michigan is set to take on Rutgers this weekend, and the Wolverines are doing their best to make an impact in the Scarlet Knights’ backyard.

With the addition of linebackers coach Chris Partridge and the increasing presence of tight ends coach Grant Newsome, Michigan is rebuilding its recruiting pipeline in New Jersey — a state that proved to be quite fruitful during Partridge’s first stint with the Wolverines.

Watch the video above for a look at five New Jersey recruits Michigan fans need to know in 2025, headlined by Top 100 Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic wide receiver Quincy Porter.

Porter recruitment

Michigan is looking for a big-bodied wide receiver next cycle and is making Porter a top priority. Both U-M wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy and area recruiter Chris Partridge have been in constant communication and have the Wolverines in the mix here.

Porter made his first-ever visit to Michigan over the summer when he attended the annual BBQ at The Big House in late July. Porter got an in-depth look at the program and facilities and also had a chance to work out with Bellamy.

Along with Michigan, Porter holds early offers from Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and others.

Porter is looking to make a return visit to Michigan this fall.

At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Porter is ranked as the No. 8 athlete and No. 92 overall prospect in the country, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked as the No. 2 overall recruit in the state of New Jersey for next cycle.

Rutgers currently has the lead for Porter on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 28.7 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is in second place with a 25.1 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan currently has two commitments in its 2025 recruiting class — Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. The class is ranked No. 15 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
