Quarterback Dak Prescott reacts to reaching 100th start for Cowboys

Quarterback Dak Prescott reacts to reaching 100th start for Cowboys

When Dak Prescott takes his first snap on Sunday against the Cardinals, it will officially mark 100 starts in the NFL and with the Dallas Cowboys for the 30-year-old.

“It’s a blessing. It really is,” Prescott said, via Jon Machota. “Grew up wanting to play this game, wanting to play this game at its highest level and that’s simply what this league is. And to think back that this will be, to say I’ve had 99 at bats at it and this will be 100 is pretty cool.”

Prescott would have hit 100 starts earlier in his tenure except for the injuries that cost him several starts in 2020 and 2022. With the injuries and everyday wear and tear, the quarterback said sometimes it feels like he’s played more than 100 games.

“Certain days, hell yeah. Certain days it feels like a lot more than 100,” Prescott said. “Some days physically, no, not at all. I do feel young. As I’ve said, knock on wood, I’m feeling healthy, being healthy, thankful for that. Put a lot of work into that. Just being where I am, let’s hope it can be another 100.”

With quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers paving the way, Prescott actually has the chance at another 100 starts if he wants to play into his late 30s or early 40s. Brady made 381 starts during his career that spanned two decades.

Prescott takes aim at next career milestone – a Super Bowl

Unlike the NFL GOAT, however, none of Prescott’s starts so far include a Super Bowl appearance or even a conference title game.

The lack of postseason success is still the ultimate driving factor for the former Mississippi State Bulldog in his eighth season.

“I haven’t achieved what I want, the ultimate goal, simple as that, and that’s the Super Bowl,” Prescott said. “Any personal goals are not anything I’ve really set out or wrote down for me to go and get. I think those things come when you take care of what you’re supposed to take care of, be the player that you need to be. But, yeah, not quite to where I want to be at all. Hopefully it doesn’t take 100 more starts. Got some at bats this year and we’re going at it full steam.”

In his first 99 starts, Prescott is 63-36. He’s led 12 fourth-quarter comebacks and 19 game-winning drives.

The Cowboys take on the Arizona Cardinals at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
