Inside Scoop: Five-star updates, Wyoming-Texas visitor list, hoops

Inside Texas takes a closer look at the latest from a handful of 2024 targets, the early Wyoming-Texas visitor list for Saturday, and more in Monday’s Recruiting Scoop.

Ryan Wingo, WR, St. Louis (Mo.) Saint Louis University

Texas’ top pass-catching target on the 2024 big board watched the Texas-Alabama game with his family on Saturday. Everyone was impressed, including Ryan and his father, Ronnie Wingo.

Wingo loved how the wide receivers were used, he told Inside Texas. The offensive machine was something that really connected with the On3 Industry Ranking five-star.

The 6-foot-2.5, 205-pounder will take an unofficial visit to Texas this Saturday for the UT-Wyoming matchup. Wingo wants to see the offense up close and personal.

Missouri is Texas’ top competition for the St. Louis product, with Tennessee, Georgia, and Michigan in the mix.

Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally

After the Black family watched Texas dismantle Alabama on Saturday night, Kobe Black was certainly impressed by the Horns performance.

This is on the heels of canceling his unofficial visit to LSU. Where will he be this coming weekend?

Texas is a possibility, per source close to the On3 Industry Ranking five-star.

The latest on two 2025 targets

Michael Fasusi, OL, Lewisville (Texas) –2025

The On3 four-star offensive tackle was thoroughly impressed by the Texas win over Alabama on Saturday night. So when he received a phone call from UT offensive coordinator Kyle Flood on Sunday morning, he was definitely excited.

Fasusi and Flood have been growing closer since meeting earlier this Spring. Fasusi loves how the Texas offensive line plays together and how hard Flood coaches his bunch of large humans.

Any plans for this weekend?

“I might be in Austin on Saturday.”

We’ll keep you posted.

Jordon Davison, RB, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei – 2025

Another recruit watching the Texas-Alabama clash was the On3 Industry Ranking No. 3 running back in the 2025 cycle.

Davison and Texas RB coach Tashard Choice already have a great relationship, as the west coast prospect has seen the Austin campus multiple times in 2023.

Davison loved how the Longhorns offense looked, and how the running backs performed. He’s a maybe for the Texas-Wyoming game on Saturday in Austin.

Ohio State is UT’s top competition, with USC and others hanging around the rim.

Offensive line recruiting

The Texas Longhorns continue to wait on the September 24th decision of five-star right tackle Brandon Baker. The 6-foot-4.5, 303-pounder is scheduled to OV to Nebraska this weekend. Texas continues to be in a pretty good spot two weeks out from a decision with Ohio State and Oregon also in the mix.

Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood is going to battle on a couple of targets committed to SEC programs. The Longhorns continue to work on getting On3 Industry Ranking four-star and Auburn verbal DeAndre Carter. Carter was scheduled to officially visit Texas for the Kansas game prior to his commitment to Auburn. The two remain in contact about an official visit.

Texas is also working on getting On3 Industry Ranking four-star offensive tackle and Texas A&M commit Weston Davis to Texas. Davis and Texas are talking about an official visit during the season with September 30th for the Kansas game, a possibility. An unofficial visit this weekend is also on the table, but Texas A&M also plays at home this weekend.

Hoops Recruiting

The Texas Longhorns hosted five-star power forward Asa Newell over the weekend. The 6-foot-9 skilled forward had a tremendous official visit based on the intel Inside Texas received. Georgia and Texas are for sure in this one with Alabama trying hard and Indiana somewhere on the list. The scenario to follow with this recruitment would be the family moving to where Asa is for his year in college. If that becomes the case, the Georgia Bulldogs would have a leg up with his older brother already being on the team in Athens.

Texas continues to trend positively for five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson ahead of an Alabama OV this weekend, and Baylor to end the month. This will be a Texas vs. Baylor decision barring a major change.
